Strafford Arms, Blind Pig, The Raven......some "characters" in those places!! But there's one I'd never go in - The Griffin....
Don't think it was Blitz in the late 90's. I'm sure there's a pub name finder online somewhere. I'll look because it's annoying me I can't remember. Maybe it was called something to do with a key? Frog and Firkin. Used to be hundreds of those firkin pubs around the country in their heyday.
3 messages since 2016? If you start posting on here, its going to get very confusing, not least for me
I’ll see if I can change my name, looking on here all time but never post. But I’ve years of experience frequenting wakeys pubs
Before those 3 it was Bitz from late 80’s to at least 96. Prior to that it was the White Horse ( next to Whitehorse Yard ) and prior to that it was offices
I think bitz would have been in-between buzz and the bar that your thinking of, I'm sure it's still a pub. I used to be in Wakey every Friday in the late 80s and 90s start at the Spaniard, then Yates's, Reflections and on to the top of Westgate, finish at the Indian Palace, always a good night.
The griffin wow went in there years ago when i was call something else cant remember what it was went in there and a few old pubs near the market now closed when they made the shopping center... rough. What did the griffin used to be called?
Sorry don’t mean to disagree but Truth is at 67 Westgate whilst Bitz and Forehorse & Firkin were at 61-63 Westgate. Hogarths now occupies 61-63. I haven’t been in any since it was a proper pub and mini hotel called White Horse in the 70’s. One day it’ll revert to that name cos that’s what happens
An old workmate of mine is running for the Wakefield election. Chris Jones of Northern Independence Party. Left wing, Socialist and vrry much "old Labpur" style. If i was living in Wakey he'd get my vote
Long Division Festival this weekend in Wakefield across several venues, plenty of alternative music. https://longdivisionfestival.co.uk/long-division-2022-first-announcements I'd be going but off to that there London later.
He’s always stuck to direct sales only with a proper shop presence.. none of this online service which is the main reason why retail shops are struggling or even closing.
Bolands that was it i remeber going in there many years ago and a woman ( if i can call her that) trying to hit me after abit of banter. I was like a prime Mayweather bobbing and weaving 1st and last time in there. One of the scruffiest pubs ive ever been in.
