Was listening to him on 5 live sports extra being interviewed at the lunch break. He's officially unretired. He gets on very well with McCullum. He also didn't deny speaking to Yorkshire as he's out of contract end of this season.
If he’s serious about playing test cricket again, he should be playing for Worcs today. Some talk about Rashid coming into the test team as well. He’s not bowled more than 10 overs in a day for about 3 or 4 years.
Both need some county championship games, but it wouldn't be surprising to see them as our two spinners playing on our Pakistan tour.
Until leech and Bess learn to turn the ball talk will return to Ali and Rashid. Seems Parkinson played himself out of selection last week
Struggling to understand how that can be true. Bowled 14 overs on a wicket that wasn’t giving anything to the spinner and took a wicket.
Before the series my thinking was to have Bairstow at seven and drop Foakes, I think this is a big innings for Foakes, he did very well in the last Test and if he's able to play sensibly and support Root, and shepherd the tail if necessary then he probably cements his place long term. With Bairstow out of touch I think Brook might well replace him for the last game. Bairstow to open maybe? Seems like a square peg though.
I didn’t see anything that looked like a test spinner. Bowled it far too slow, gave the batsmen time to play off the back foot even to full balls. I can’t remember him ripping many (if any) past the edge. I’m one for giving him time though as spinners need to play to get better, especially leggies. Maybe a red ball season organised correctly by the ECB would be a start
It’s a whole new squad selection for the last test so the new gaffer may want to make several changes. I think James Taylor has gone so Stokes and McCullum should be the main selecters with most reliance on the captain as he’ll know players better.
Not at all. It was a period that could have changed the game. If you don't want to make mistakes you will never do anything.
but there are only 2 probable results now and the captain jeopardised our only positive 1 by playing 1day mode, yes it's great to watch him fly, but not needed this time we made our mistakes 1st innings dropping 5 catches, that's when and why we won't win this test
Wardy and Swanny both agreed that Stokes was giving it a go for a win. If he’d have been in much longer, we’d have had a lead
The spin department is definitely a concern for this England team. Leach can do it at county level but has struggled to make the step up and take wickets at test level. Bess, not sure how he's been doing for Yorkshire. I think there were concerns over his 'control'. I haven't seen a lot of Parkinson but should we have binned him off after one test? Tough one to be honest. Are there any young spinners to keep an eye on at county level?
Brilliant to see a positive mindset from this team. I hope we can get a 50 run plus lead over New Zealand and then put them under real pressure in the 2nd innings. Its time Jack Leach stepped up!
but playing the stats how many test sides have scored 550 1st innings and lost? even if he got another 50 the odds on us winning here would be pretty slim, will see over mon/tue i guess but i can't see us bowling them out cheaply enough to warrant a chase, but at least this will go 5 days
No issue with him trying to hit the ball out of the ground. My issue was with him going for another cross batted shot against somebody that was getting a lot of bounce which had found his top edge two balls earlier.
Can’t write somebody off after only 14 overs on a pitch that offered no assistance. As for his speed, his average speed is similar to Warne’s. He should be second spinner on the next sub-continent tour.
He at least has to prove that his body is still up to red ball cricket and that he can bowl 20+ overs in a day.
