Absolutely delighted with this one. From all of the names mentioned, Duff has always been the one which has looked like the most logical choice. JFH's style of football doesn't sound particularly exciting, and I always felt IF Warnock was even remotely available, it would be a short term appointment with a short term goal only. Duff is more experienced than Eric Ramsay, and has a better recent track record than Stendel. I'm not saying he'll have us winning the league at the first attempt, as there's tons of work to do in terms of the squad, but I do think we've got the right manager in this time. That's something I certainly didn't feel about the last two appointments.
probably because the media outlets seem to be, plus the club statement. it seems very unlikely cheltenham would have put out the statement they have, if it wasn't a done deal.
Agree with that in the main. Of all the candidates suggested, he seemed to make most sense. He's got a tough job on his hands and he's going to need time, patience and very good support from the club to be able to put out a decent team while the cuts take place. Hopefully it can all get announced today and he can get cracking in working out what a possible first team squad is going to look like next season.
I think the key thing for me is that it's just a sensible, solid appointment. I can't imagine why anyone would really object, and I can't remember the last time that happened. at a time where we need stability and common sense low-risk decision making, this is a good start.
Bit of a shame, but a day or two in the scheme of things isn't the end of the world, as long as he's in place ahead of the full squad being back, thats always been the main priority.
Reading some of the Twitters from Cheltenham fans, sounds he's universally adored there, and they're largely pleased for him. They seem like a nice bunch.
Well his terms must be agreed to hand his notice in at Cheltenham. So they'll be a bit of compo and maybe his staff to negotiate..
My brother in law is a massive Cheltenham fan and a massive Duff fan also. In his opinion we've bagged a good guy. Of the people we've been looking at this seems like the right appointment for all the reasons many have cited on here. He needs our support and patience now. That's crucial.
I reckon those that have renewed have indicated that. Especially as no one was in place. So were taking a chance. It's now down to those wavering to make their minds up. Obviously 1 poster at least will not be renewing. Warnock being their pre-condition. I don't see it leading to many sales, as a drop in standard and the present cost of living has had a major impact. But I certainly hope I'm wrong.
Agree with that. However, the new Board set up will have seen an upturn in sales I suspect. Also, come Christmas 22, if we're challenging the top 6 then I reckon many of the waverers will be looking for Santa to drop a half season ticket in their red stocking. Mr. D has a challenging job on his hands but his short managerial career has proven successful so far at a club where he hasn't had massive resources, so lets hope he can add to ticket sales and get Oakwell buzzing again. I'm interested in the style of football he's going to play and what he's going to be looking for in the transfer market. Looks like he's been consistent with his 352 formation at Cheltenham. Interesting times as always when we get a new guy in charge.
just said that cheltenham has annouced that Duff is leaving and has had offers off 2 clubs but they expect barnsley to annouce him shortly
