I'd avoid that one tbh. He's 28 and had one good goal scoring season which admittedly was last season. Aside from that his record isn't good. If he was free then he'd be worth a punt but I wouldn't spend a fee on him
But he wasn't when he first arrived. Showed some early promise and looked to have a bit of 'big club' class on the ball. Like most of the squad last season, he had that knocked out of him, along with any enthusiasm for the game. I'd hope the new gaffer can prioritise getting that back.
One player who know one is mentioning who might well come into the equation is Jack Aitcheson , he played the role in the hole behind the front two for Forest Green very effectively , if Duff is to be our new manager I am sure he will be well aware of this lad & he could be perfect for linking the midfield & forwards , I watched him last season in a live game & he is two footed , works his socks off box to box & he scores goals as well , he was sent out to get experience & now hopefully we reap the benefit , he looks a real prospect to me.
Mentioned him a lot towards the end of last season. He’s a superb addition to the squad. If we signed someone who had played 35 or more games for the League Two champions we’d all be getting giddy. That’s essentially what we’ve done with Jack coming back. Only concern for me is his contract situation.
Ive got better hopes for Herbie Kane this time, especially after reading those positive comments about how Duff likes to do things. If he returns fully fit and knuckles down like he apparently did at Oxford, it would be like us getting a good new signing on a free transfer.
He's so under the radar that he's not even on the 'Comings and Goings' sticky as a returning loanee yet
He had three decent games at best. Can't tackle, can’t pass and as the heart of a pea. it's a no from me.
I would love to be proved wrong re benson but I don’t think he’s good enough for L1 let alone championship
Woodrow is sunk cost. Given the rumoured clause we have to pay Fulham a decent proportion of any transfer, and while his wages are substantial, we'd have to shell out to get a replacement in. Might as well keep him for the season and hope he can fire us back to the Championship.
Don’t think we know the full details of the clause though. It’s not a sunk cost when it’s half a million going out of the club. His replacement might be a free agent or a loan for one season that costs half of that.
It depends on who would be available, but essentially that's saving £250,000 to take a punt on an unknown. I'm not sure we're quite at that position yet, given that the directors have indicated that they would be willing to invest further capital. I think selling Woodrow is probably well down on the list of ways they try to save money, unless we get a silly offer or he tries to force a move.
Half a million on wages and have a million on a transfer fee, for someone who goes for nothing next year? I’d be concerned if we weren’t actively trying to move him on to be honest.
