Looks a decent series , based on a mining community in Notts amidst the aftermath of the Miners strike .
2 minutes in: nobody from Nottinghamshire would refer to Nottingham forest as notts forest. (Scab or no scab)
When do you think this will die out? Infuriates me that there's children chanting it at games, who weren't even born and have no idea why they're chanting it.
I suppose, probably the same reason clubs will always see us a small club, and Barnsley being a $hithole
Sadly it existed long before the 80's, it's sadly built into the DNA of Yorkshire mining communities.
I don’t understand why people get infuriated by the scab chants, yet we here songs such as the ‘fek the pope and the IRA’ we all hate Leeds scum at practically every game and comparatively little is said.
In the 80s, I was told about an old man who had fallen down. Somebody asked if anybody was going to help him. The answer was no because the was a scab. It turned out that the man crossed a picket line in 1928! It runs deep.
If you speak to the people chanting scab I’d imagine the vast majority know exactly why they’re chanting it. Do people on here not speak to their parents, grandparents, uncles etc?
I don't like them either. I was watching a video of Hammill's last game and the reception from the fans and feeling embarrassed that the Adam Hammill is a Red line is massively let down by the he hates Leeds scum bit.
Went to Frickley v Worksop some years ago. Frickley fans chanted ‘we stayed out you went back’. Worksop being Nottinghamshire pits went back and the Yorkshire fans never forget. However, as stated kids chanting who were never even born were chanting. Never die.
Have a look around Barnsley and the villages the legacy that was left behind when the mines closed. Those youngsters you refer to had skilled jobs taken away from their area replaced mainly with low paid agency work. We shouldn't forget history and where it leads us.
Correct. But that doesn't extend to calling people who were not involved and, for the most part, not even born scabs. It's juvenile beyond belief.
I don’t think it’s any more or less different to any song that is aimed at ‘goading’ opposing fans. My kids know why I lost my job as a miner, because of vindictive Tory politics which would still have failed had they not been aided and abetted by scabs. No I’m not all bitter and twisted about it, but I believe local youngsters should be well aware of why, for many of them, their chances of local work were drastically reduced/ removed
