Has anyone on here had flights cancelled recently and what did you do? It appears that Wizz are obliged to refund us for any flights we choose to the destination, seeing as they have no seats for the foreseeable. However, the next few flights are insanely expensive, so I'd rather make sure I'll get compensated before paying for the replacements!

I don’t know the answer but I tend to head over to Simon Calder’s Twitter account and website for all my travel questions like this. Like an encyclopaedia of airlines, travel restrictions, and customer rights and deadlines.

I've checked a few sites and I'm 100% sure they're legally obliged to refund me. But with the replacements being £500 each, I don't really fancy a long and protracted battle. Plus getting to Heathrow for 5.30 am with the current transport situation is going to be similarly expensive and stressful.

We had our holiday cancelled with TUI. They said we could rebook with them and receive 20% off, or receive a full refund within 14 days (it took 13).

We were a little hamstrung at what we could do as we're going to Rhodes for a wedding, and the flights were cancelled 17 days before we were due to go out. The only other holiday TUI was showing to Lindos in Rhodes this weekend was from Heathrow for a 4 star hotel at a much higher price. Even after our discount we'd still need to fork out an extra £800, before even considering how to get to Heathrow.

We requested a refund, and in the meantime I used my credit card to rebook with Jet2. Coincidentally, the one with Jet2 was a slightly nicer hotel, albeit in Lardos (the next town along from Lindos) and £250 cheaper for the two of us.

Edit: I will just add too, its TUI's policy to refund you in installments if you've paid in installments. I'm not sure whether that's the same for Wizz air (I'd presume so considering they're owned by Ryanair). We initially booked this holiday in 2019, had to pay an extra £150 to change it in 2020 due to the pandemic, and an extra £120 last year. So we received the £120 and £150 payments first, then the rest a week later.

That's interesting. We've not booked a package, just flights though. And I'm guessing if I accept a refund (£125 all in) I'll waiver my right to any more compensation. Getting to Mykonos this week will cost minimum 10 times that!

That’s interesting about Ryanair owning Wizz.
Our flights to Tenerife, two weeks today, are cancelled by Wizz. We were flying out of Doncaster, specifically because it is such a quiet hassle free airport that hasn’t made the headlines for travel chaos.
The alternative, which the travel agent offered us, is to fly with Ryanair, out of Leeds-Bradford.
But going abroad is starting to sound more hassle than it’s worth so I might just take the refund and spend a fortnight in my local pub!!

Ignore me mate. Wizz air have nothing to do with Ryanair. I've no idea where I got that from.

It was Rafael hotel in Lindos. 2 stars but the reviews for it were really good!

Ah, noted. We'll definitely have a look.

    Thanks mate!

Ah fair enough. We don't normally book a package, but we're glad we did this time. I don't see why you shouldn't be compensated, even if you accept a refund, as its not your fault at the end of the day.

Prices have been hiked due to demand, which is even more annoying considering the number of flight disruptions at the minute. I hope you get sorted!
