It would be silly to keep him on 10k per week. We need to slash the wage bill and for the amount that he's on then we could probably bring 3 new players in who would hopefully give us a more competitive squad and competition for spaces. Rotherham will be down before the trimmings.
We will be weaker without him in league one him and morris would be a great partnership and both be aiming for 20 plus goals. Hes attracting interest from a club who are a similar size maybe smaller than ourself and arent a top half club. We have to sell woodrow unfortunately to get him off the wage bill if we have any sense we wont sell to a club in our league as he is proven at league one level.
Hes not above criticism though and last season, well the last 18 months or more actually, have been very disappointing from him. And maybe making him captain was a bad idea as well, it might have affected him. But that doesn't change what he did for us in his better days and how good he was then, and I hope this can resurrect his career. He and we as a club need a fresh start, whether its Luton or somebody else.
He scored 4 last season. Season before he scored 7 in open play and 6 penalties. I wouldn't think anyone would call him a prolific goalscorer
Not at all many said we would miss mowatt myself included. We obviously will miss woodrow he is proven in league one but simple fact is we cant afford his 10k a week wages in league one so 520k off the wages and whatever fee we get for him. Sad to see him go a good servant to the club and one who actually showed abit of loyalty.
No idea how accurate this is, but it has him on 8,400 https://salarysport.com/football/sky-bet-championship/barnsley/
I know he is the highest paid as he was close to a move with cardiff but then did a uturn signed a new deal and was made the highest paid player. 10k has been quoted on here many times by people who are usually right so ill go with that one.
Woodrow's return last season wasn't great. But if you drill down into it, how many goal contributions came from midfield? Without checking, I believe Palmer didn't score and provided I think 2 assists. Benson didn't score and provided just 1 assist (on the first game of the season no less). As good as he was, Wolfe didn't score and provided 1 assist. Styles scored a couple, and assisted maybe 2 or 3. Gomes, 1 goal and I think 1 assist. We had a brief spell when Quina and Bassi came in and were chipping in with a few goals and assists, and we were winning games. This coincided with Woodrow being injured for the most part. The season before, Mowatt probably scored and assisted more than our last seasons midfield combined.
I had it in my head he had scored, but thought it was the cup game against Barrow. But I stand corrected.
Why ? Woodrow is our player & is championship quality , Winnall is well past his best & his scoring record at Oakwell does not hold a candle to Woodrows , I suspect your reply is purely pedantic which ends any reasonable debate .
Where does this £10k a week figure come from - can it be evidenced (somebody on here saying it a lot is not evidence imho!)? Do the people quoting his full wage as an annual saving know that Woodrow's contract has definitely not got a relegation reduction clause in it? Thanks. (Clearly a huge difference between 11/12ths of £500k and 11/12ths of £400k reduced by 25-40%).
What’s the issue anyway. Clearly he doesn’t want to stay anyway regardless of what he’s paid or done in the past. Time for new heroes. (Again)
I get your point fella, but It's about being realistic. I'd like to keep Cauley, but the fact remains that the squad needs an overhaul and if moving him on enables us to bring in 2 or 3 players then I trust the club to do this. If he is out of contract in 12 months time then we get a fee for him now and he's off the wage bill. If Cauley does leave then we must keep hold off Morris.
I think the fact that we're prepared to let him move on goes a long way to confirming that he's a luxury that we can't afford. Time to wish him well and start shaping things to within our budget. What's to say that Woodrow's form is not on the same slide path as Winnalls? Nobody knows for sure.
