Yes I spoke to him. It was overgrown with ivy and the cross had fallen off. He apparently spied a DY of Preedy on the footing of the grave through the greenery and found it. His best mate is buried next door. The originals had to locate Preedys nearest living relative to obtain permission to restore it. We wanted to do his best mates plot as well but aren't allowed. They have 'rangers' patrolling the cemetery in 4x4s and we've been collared a couple of times until we can prove were there for legitimate reasons.
I think it really deserves a little football video like they do on football focus, it deserves some recognition, goodluck, well done. You reds.
Strange rule re bit of a tidy. Get Martin to do it, I'm sure he could come up with a valid excuse. You'll know what I mean CT. ("oops sorry wrong grave officer") Good on yer re the pilgrimage.
I've seen the photo before. Excellent innit. I'll take an 'after' replica again. The difference is remarkable.
Having visited previously, I have to say it's a very enlightening experience. I'd urge anyone of a BFC persuasion to make the journey. Would have loved to join this particular trip again, to give it some real coverage. But I'm snowed under in the office. Safe trip, and enjoy!
This was the grave in 1998 post clean up. You can see which letters would have been on view and what was obscured. Quite an unbelieveable find given the size of the cemetary.
Nice pic Dave. Not seen that one before. The scale of the cemetery is unbelievable. Biggest in England Ive been told. Apparently a million plots. Also told it's same area of 750 football pitches. I've not researched it like just what I've been told. We're taking Neil's drone with us so might get some footage loaded. Ps the flying thingy, not his missus.
I haven't posted on here for a few years, as I got fed up of arguing with certain people who just wanted to knock the club, but I have a few photos that you might find of interest starting with this one. I'm not sure who it was that tidied the grave up, but here's a photo of the grave after it had been cleaned up in 1998. Hopefully I'm attaching the photo in the right way, as it's giving me the option of thumbnail or full image
Cheers Paul I think that was the photo that appeared in the programme. Am I right in thinking it took you a few visits to locate the grave
