Clubs like Peterborough, well, specifically Peterborough, massively inflate the transfer fee they actually receive.
Helik - established international squad player over last few years, one of top defenders in Championship for last 2 years running, his stock will never be higher around £5m to a team in Europe. Styles - young, versatile & despite a poor season last year has established himself into a Hungary side that battered England. £3m +
Do we ant to take £3m now and no sell on or £1.5m now and 50% of any sell on. Appreciate the answer might be different for Styles than it is for Helik.
I'd want a pretty fee for Callum - £4.5m plus. No more selling on the cheap. The lad is class, has a great attitude and is young. Helik half that based on age.
We need a minimum of 5 million for both. Helik established International. Championship team of the season. Styles over a 100 games. An international with loads of potential. Anything less than 10 million for the pair and we should pack in.
I'd hope for around £3m each but I'm sure we have reputation of being soft touches in the transfer market, so wouldn't expect anywhere near. A lot has been said about the bottom falling out if the Championship transfer market, but I'd expect them both to generate interest from Europe given their international exposure. How rich are Fenerbahçe?
Whether they are worth it is another matter, but I wish we were more savvy when selling our players. Peterbrough always ask top dollar for theirs, and I think they always get it as well. I hope we can get about 5 mill combined for both Helik & Styles, but I doubt we will.
[QUOTE="Acido Tyke, post: 2971170, member: 120887" Peterbrough always ask top dollar for theirs, and I think they always get it as well. .[/QUOTE] You know what thought did. ? Asking and getting very rarely happen. Unless your selling to a money bags club in a bidding war. No bids have been placed only enquiries at the mo for Styles. Toney was on the table for £10m. It's rumoured it ended up being £5m with bonuses attached. Barry Fry will always cave in for the best deal. Irrespective of him saying otherwise. Our biggest bonus re Styles is the length of contract with 1yr left and 1yr added in the clubs favour. I think same applies to Helik.
Patrick Cryne remarked on Facebook that we had got more than the reported £5 million for Mawson. Not a lot more, I don't think, but a little more. Dane Murphy, before he left for Forest, said if anyone wanted any of our top players, they would have to break our transfer record to get them.
And the Intl thing is in their favour now, that could add more to their values. It will be undisclosed of course, but I would hope to be getting about 5 mill for them both. If its nearer to 4 mill or even less, that will be very disappointing.
I obviously want us to get the best we can. If theres a bidding war we may well get a good deal. If only one is interested. It's down to bargaining.
But the ability of the player isn’t the sole factor in what fee is paid. Contract length and how much the selling club need the cash are much bigger factors.
But there is some urgency to sell players, how much urgency and what the board consider a good value depends on how much they're willing to risk having to plough in themselves. A bid of anything over 2m for either player will test them.
