I know exactly how much both Helik and Styles will sell for, 2 x undisclosed with an interest retained in their future value. In reality, unless the owners want to stump up more cash, sales need to happen this window simply to provide sufficient money to get through the next season. I would hope that they can command fees that get the club though the season and that in itself puts pressure on the total amount. The more interest they retain the lower the initial fee when cash is needed now.
Not that bothered about a sell on fee to be honest. We struck gold with Stones, and got a bit from Mawson, but with more players running contracts down, sell ons are becoming less valuable. No sell ons for Bree, Winnall, Hourihane, Moore, or Lindsay. Who knows whether we'll get anything from sell on for Pinnock, Brown or Holgate.
I don't think it's unrealistic for us to aim to ultimately recoup over £5m for each of them. However, I'd expect the bulk of this to be via sell-on clauses which get triggered at some point. What's more difficult to assess is what the up-front element of the fee should be. Styles has put himself in the shop-window with his performances for Hungary, particularly as he featured in both wins over England. At the very least this should have undone all the deterioration of his value during last season being mis-managed by two appalling coaches. Helik probably has less of a sell-on value than Styles but arguably commands a higher up-front fee at the moment.
Maybe it’s just me but I really don’t think Styles has what it takes to make a top level player. Yes, the lockdown season at LWB was a real stand out for him but back in his natural midfield position last season he was bang average. His set piece delivery is generally poor and he lacks a yard of pace for me. He’s probably decent for a top end championship side where he has good players around him but I really don’t see him making a regular premiership starter. I’ll be pleasantly surprised if we get more than £2m for him. I could well be proved wrong with this, I very often am to be fair!
Some of these estimates are detached from reality altogether. If we get £1.5m for Styles and £1m for Helik I’d be pleasantly surprised.
Loving the “if we get less than 8m-10m” quotes. As if either Styles or Helik are worth 4m each. An easy way to look at it - if we were paying £4m for a player would you be happy if it was spent on Helik? I would suggest in most cases the answer would be no. We’ll get 3.5-4m tops combined. And it’s not bad business based on last seasons performances.
That's along the same lines as my thinking. Hope we get silly money, obviously, but those figures would significantly improve the bank balance and help with the wage burden. You would hope a sell-on clause would also be included and we tend to do that, but it may never be triggered. I am of the opinion that if our players were worth as much as claimed we wouldn't have been bottom of the league, barely capable of a goal for much of last season, never mind a win.
For Lech Poznan it's being mentioned as 1.5 million Euros for Helik...... https://futbol.pl/news/572206_Micha...owy_klub_Ekstraklasy_uslyszal_cene_za_stopera That will annoy a lot of people if the fee was that low.
Very annoying, should be double that, but I would prefer him to go overseas rather than to another club in England. Just so we don't have to see him come back and score against us at some point.
