Shame for Overton to be left out after what he did at Headingley. Billings will hopefully take his chance. Just the 8th different captain used by India in the past year :D I do love Bumrah though, he is a world class bowler and it's going to be good to see if we can go at the four an over we are used to these days against him.

yeah gotta feel for overton but jimmy back is a no brainer so he was the obvious choice, nice to stick with the same core of the team even if some are on the brink, plus we get harry fri/sun ;-)
we appear to have fixed 3-6 but openers still need to make it hard to be left out, lees can do it but crawley should be able to do it

Billings always seems like a nice lad so glad he’s getting another go, especially after his heroic drive across Australia. He will fit this style of play well too, could see him keeping Foakes out long term if he performs.

Definitely feel for Overton. But difficult to leave Jimmy out if fit. They could have considered keeping him as an opener though. He got more runs in one innings than Crawley has all series

I think Broad is a touch lucky to stay in the side. He’s done ok this summer, but Potts has done well, can’t leave Anderson out, and they might’ve wanted Overton for his extra pace

Must be last chance saloon for Crawley in this test.

    Totally agree re Crawley.

I would have given Bairstow the gloves and retained Overton.

Completely disagree - think Broad has been inspirational at times. Can’t bottle what he’s got.

Only Leach has taken more wickets this calendar year than Broad for England.

I think it is. But from everything I’ve heard from Stokes/McCullum, they are going to give lads a proper go because even if he fails, it gives everyone else in the team confidence to go out and play and not worry about being dropped after a couple of bad performances. So this isn’t necessarily about Crawley, it’s about building a long term culture.

Personally I think, for his own good, he needs time out of the side. His brain looked scrambled in that second dig at Headingley and he’s young enough to go back to county cricket, score big runs for 2 years, then come back a better player.

I thought Broad would be rested as he bowled far more overs against New Zealand than any other fast bowler.

I did wonder as all three South Africa tests are 11 am starts and when we do start half ten it's usually in September when the weather is more iffy. With the tests starting 3 pm India time they can watch the whole day before bed.

Not a big follower of cricket but drop in for the big games. What happened in the other 4 Tests?

Crawley - can't bat and can't bloody catch. Yes it went sharply but that catch should have been taken at this level.

Glad to see the back of Pujara. He looked set to get his half century in the last over of the day.

I see Harry Brook is in squad of 15 for ODI series.

It’s difficult seeing how he’ll get in first match starting line up !

Potts what a lad!!! Even if every fast bowler was 100% fit to play I don't think you could leave him out the way he's started his test career.
