Come back to me in 18 months when crypto and the stock market aren’t on the floor. We might have changed our minds anyway by then.
Well I will still insist upon Higgy being in charge of youth development. With Bossman in charge of half time team talks (e.g. "win")
Cheerio. Another one who couldn’t wait to jump ship despite being part of the reason we ended up here despite his best efforts. Just seems we don’t ever really hold out for good value just seems to be first club that comes along and off they go.
We need a manageable amount from many rather than lots from a few. It's a shame there aren't enough, because it would be an interesting venture.
Eh? I’ll answer what I think you’ve tried to say. So - when they said things would change, you interpreted that to mean we wouldn’t be a selling club anymore? That’s your problem - that isn’t what they said is it? The changes to me meant a board that pulled together solely in the interest of the club, a change away from only ever signing kids, a change from not looking for coaches domestically. If you are so blinkered as to believe nothing has changed just because we’ve sold a player you wanted to stay, then that’s for you to work out. We don’t have new owners. We just have a new board. You, and we all, have to be realistic as to how precarious the financial position of the club is.
The £7million shortfall doesn’t need to solely be made up of transfer fees received, outgoings on wages being reduced makes part of it up too. Which is why I’m not necessarily expecting that many signings. There will be room for some as the players that stay will have reduced wages too.
If we sell Helik and Styles I would see us being close to £7 million in transfer fees received, plus about £1.25m in wages off the bill. Another £2m in relegation clauses and the £1m injection from the current board, and that should see us as having reset the financial side of things with a little bit of give in terms of recruiting replacements up front. Should also allow Madds, Collins, Brittain and Iseka to stay, who will be extremely valuable players at this level.
For ***** sake. That’s because in league one last time they hadn’t spunked every penny of the cash reserves, mainly on sacking ineptly appointed managers, they hadn’t got a massive EFL loan to repay. To put it simply, last time we weren’t ****** financially. This time we most certainly are. It’s like trying to play chess with a pigeon on here sometimes.
A difficult read this thread - I've got Hemsworth blocked, so I presume he's polluting it with bilge seeing as everyone is tearing their hair out in trying to explain. Back on topic, it's a shame Morris has to leave. He was one of the very few shining lights last season - always gave his all, and wasn't afraid to dish out rollickings to those who couldn't be bothered. But I understand why he's had to leave. Firstly, he'll want to play at the highest standard he can - it wasn't his fault we went down. Secondly, we haven't got a pot to piss in thanks to the various people who have conspired to run us into the ground over the last 12 months. Good luck Carlton, no hard feelings from me.
Less of the naive comments smart arse. You haven’t got any news for me so you can get off your high horse. I’ve posted in the last couple of days that I was accepting of Woodrow, Helik & Styles going this window. I think £2m (or less) is a shocking fee for a player I think is brilliant & as good a forward as we’ve had on our books for 20 years. Others might not rate him that highly but I do & I think I’ll be proven right. I also don’t believe he’ll be on big money given we signed him after some less than impressive loan spells. Others such as Styles & Collins will presumably be on better money given they renewed their contracts after doing well in the championship for us. You don’t have to agree with every single transfer to want your club to be run properly. With the way some people defend every sale of a player you would think they were getting a cut of it. On this occasion I think the transfer fee is crap & I don’t believe he’s on big money so there’s no need to get a big earner off the books quickly like there was with Woodrow.
I am not on a high horse & I am not a smart arse, I do not give out news as I am not in the know but neither am I nieve & I expect a lot more comings & goings before the season starts.
Collins is on his original five year deal I think. All fair comments (although I think expecting more than £2m is a bit out there) but you haven’t factored in the player’s desire to leave, which is becoming more obvious as time moves on. Did he play in any of the friendlies to date?
Plenty of clubs hold onto players who want to move on. In some ways it leverages a club to pay more to get them out rather than just sell them cos they want to go straight away.
And in many ways it means they don’t get true value because the agent is working with a player he knows is unhappy and can leverage that to speed up an exit. Especially one that has just been relegated. I think the deal is about right though and this hasn’t really happened here that much. I just don’t think enough is being said overall about the player wanting out (which is fair enough).
I've read some of the comments and know the deficit needs making up. However, Duff would have come in knowing there was a possibility that Collins, Helik, Anderson, Styles, Woodrow, Brittain and Morris might be sold. He'll also know he'll be able to bring in players. Can't see the fuss.
