Nah, b0llox to that. @Jack Tatty (Formerly LouisBalfour) you were right the first time. All these utterly ***** “I was only joking” threads have been done to death. Just look at any post on facebook about last night’s match, and it’s just the same crap being reiterated over and over.
Yes we get it. Women’s football is slower and not as good as mens. We totally agree.
The problem is, it’s exactly this crap that puts girls off playing.

But thousands of “hilarious blokes” are hashing out this same boring lines sitting on their backsides, whilst some elite footballers (yes they are elite, whether they like it or not) , fitter than they will ever be are playing the game to the best of their abilities.

I have no problem that people don’t want to watch it. Just why the need to continually drag down something that encourages young girls to be active. It’s relentless and unfunny and unbelievably unhepful to people like me who are actually trying to encourage people into the game. I bet people churning out this hilarity have no actual concept of the fears that some young girls face about body image, bullying, and the fact that they will viewed upon as “lezzers” if they show an interest. People who don’t like it, just leave it be - last night was possibly the most encouraging thing to promote sport to girls in my lifetime - and the day after it’s ruined by the same old crap that’s been churned out for the last 30 years.
So yes, there’s your bite. Carry on with the rest of the comedians “i was only joking” covers it.
And yes I have a sense if humour, but what should be a triumph for women’s sport is already being downgraded and it really p:sses me off.

You're definitely not the least homophobic person I could meet, the least homophobic person I could meet wouldn't describe women footballers as "lezzers" even if they did later decide to try and claim it was some sort of post-modern ironic commentary or summat.

And being ribbed for having big ears isn't the same as homophobia or sexism.

The sunday league football environment, the local pub ribbing and the workplace banter are exactly the environments that are a breeding ground for bullying and racism. I've seen it with my own eyes and I'd imagine it was exactly the sort of environment prevalent at Yorkshire CCC.
As long as there's "banter" there's always a target. Sometimes the target can give as good as they get but sometimes they can't.

Thing is my Mrs watches strictly and the female judges are always going on about the blokes backsides and how it causes them to have a hot sweat in their tight trousers…could you imagine blokes going on about women’s arses or boobs, it wouldn’t happen, has for the England women’s football team, I think it’s brilliant to watch and puts mens to shame in the whole rolling about faking injury, I’m proper behind them and I hope they go all the way, I suppose from my point of view even tho it’s not very PC I got brought up in a changing room where we got some real stick,

Just in case anyone wants to know why women get rattled by this

Imagine being told all the way through school that you can’t play the sport you love because it’s “for boys”

Or fearing being branded a “dyke” or a “lezzer” just because you play football.

Or even worse being ridiculed because of your sexual preferences.

And then some years down the line when it appears that there’s actually a strive towards inclusion, the fact that you can’t play as fast or as hard as the men means your sport is disregarded and disrespected.

The role of increasing participation of women and girls is of no consequence cos Dave / Allan / Mick hasn’t been entertained in the first game of a tournament.

Imagine having that thrown at you since you were in school in the 1980s .

I think whole point most folk are missing is the point of my post. It was meant to instigate the chat and comments that it has provoked. Intentionally and to assertain comments. The lad/mate I was sat next to when I posted it was a very dear friend of mine. Openly gay (he doesn't really have a choice) camp as Christmas and a top lad. Refuses to do what he calls 'the Rainbow thing' and thought it was amusing as he does the same at every BFC match we go to together. If it did offend anyone it wasn't intentional. This is part of my point though......

I like watching women's football. The crux of the matter and why some don't is they feel it's 'too slow' etc.

It's a physical fact men run faster, throw further, are usually more muscular and taller on average. Can kick further etc. But both men and women play on the same size pitches and the same size goals. It's down to funding. If the pitch/goals were reduced by even 10% the product on show would be vastly improved imho. It makes total sense. I listened to a female footy expert talking about exactly the same thing on Talksport a few weeks back.

Eh? All I've said is that you can't be the least homophobic person on the planet, because that person wouldn't use the word "lezzer". That's not judging you, that's just simple logic.

It seems that you made a post which you thought was funny after a few pints which was a bit offensive, and when called out on it rather than admit to it you're going down this bizarre rabbit hole of pretending you were setting a trap and acting as if you're having the last laugh. It doesn't really make sense - there was no nuance to the OP, it was just old school sexism and homophobia based on tired old tropes about female footballers.

After 'a few pints' ?!? Who's judging now?
What makes sense is that I firmly believe in open opinions. I was (until recently) a sports coach in primary schools. I coached and developed youngsters, male and female. One of which I paid for her own professional coaching as I saw her talent and she now runs and represents GB. 3 lasses I coached are now in the Donny Belles set up. A Polish lass has returned home and is astute at triple jump and keeps me informed.

I'm in no rabbit hole. Anyone who does actually know me will vouch for that. Homophobia ?!? I was sat next to my openly camp gay friend who thought it was fair game and encouraged me.

Ps I am having the last laugh. Mainly at you to be fair.

Especially when your name is Mansfield, not a very bit of equality that. Maybe change it to Persons field Red instead. We wouldn't want to cause offence would we?!?

Where's the opinion in the OP? It's just a witless joke relying on stereotypes.

Good to know your gay male friend speaks on behalf of all lesbians and women. I've got a black mate, so I guess that makes it alright for me to post p*** jokes by your logic.

Would you make the comment you made in the OP to those girls/women you mention in the first paragraph?

Non of us can speak on everyone's behalf. That's my point. My point is that people get offended on other peoples behalf. I'm guessing you're neither female or lesbian. It makes me laugh that folk get offended on other people's behalf.

Serious question. If you're that offended have you have you ever attended an anti Racism or Anti Gay march. ?!? I have done both. But keyboard warrior status seems to dominate rather than direct behaviour. I've shown the OP to a few 'treacles' this afternoon who thought it was funny. Then spent 20 minutes arguing over who'd do Beckham or Ronaldo first. I left. I was discustard. (Deliberate misspelling to go with the over the head OP).

I wouldn’t disagree with the resizing of pitches/ goalposts helping the women’s game. You say it’s down to funding - well yes it is to a certain extent - but more pertinently it’s because most sport has been designed with men in mind. The entire structure.
What would also help is if people could just let women get on and play without whining about
Crowds being made up of screaming kids
Free tickets to bulk out crowds
    Female commentators being used
Mens game “propping up” the womens game
    and on it goes

Women were inexplicably banned from playing football for 51 years. Women of my age have never really recovered from that. The inequalities still rage through the sport. It is still a sexist, homophobic sport.
Sorry if I didn’t appreciate the “humour” but this stuff needs calling out because this is a battle that has been going on most of my life, and having been to what was a fantastic occasion at Old Trafford, where finally some of balance was being tilted finally in favour of women for one night, to read the same old stuff yet again, does really grate. I just don’t understand the logic of people (mainly men) wanting to undermine something. And that is not directed at you personally but the thousands of people on social media, determined to pull holes in the women’s game.

So I'm not allowed to find sexism or homophobic language offensive unless I'm a woman or a lesbian?

If the OP genuinely went "over my head" I'd be grateful if you could explain the subtleties that I've apparently missed, or what makes it funny.

And I ask again - would you make comments like that in front of the girls you taught or their parents?

It wasn't be meant to be funny. Just a talking point.

You need to get a grip. Stop becoming of a post that the vast majority take as banter. You are pathetic.

And yes I would. I've enhanced their lives.

Wait, I'm confused now, so was it "a talking point" or "banter"?

I don't think I'm pathetic. I have a daughter who, if she makes the same poor choices as her dad, might end up supporting Barnsley and come on here. She might also play football. She might also turn out to be homosexual. In any of those cases she'll face enough adversity without dealing with drivel like the OP. Now I don't know whether you are a homophobe or sexist in your daily life, but there are people who will read that post who are homophobic and sexist and your "banter" or "talking points" reinforces their belief that it's still OK to hold those views.

About two months my son came out to me. I fully support him. I've showed him this thread and his exact words are " these people are
the reason it took me this long to come out"
