To most people the Chelsea connection has no relevance, but to Higgy its the be all and end all

Lets be clear about this, he thinks Frimpong is one of the greatest signings BFC have ever made due to the fact is was once on Arsenals books

Alternatively Chelsea have so many young players on their books that the attention given to any individual player, especially those who aren't immediately identified as the next big thing, is actually lower than at a smaller club where that developing player could very well be the saviour of the club.

It's why clubs like Chelsea have knocked out absolute dog turd like Mellis, Nouble and Kiwomya

Interesting fact 97% of premier academy players. Never play in the premier. 70% never even get a professional contract in football at all.
I can't find owt regarding EFL academy players . I would like to see the comparison.
As for Chelsea meaning nothing I totally agree. Just off the top of my head. 2 far better goalies that spring to mind. Straight away.
    Dave Watson
    Luke Steele.
Collins and Walton are a long way off my Top 10 to play for Barnsley. And I only can go back as far as 1966.

What do they consider an academy player though? Is it just those in the under 18s or does it include the 50 9 year olds signed up too? Thinking of when I was at school there were at least 15 boys in my year who signed to various local clubs 'academies' between age 11 and 14. As far as I know only one ever played professional.

Not surprising Teams like chelsea and city cast the net so far signing everyone and anyone up for the accademy then loaning them out its a joke.

I know you like your stats. Take a look at 2019/20. When walton kept us up.
    Collins 19 games 4 clean sheets .
Walton 7 games 3 clean sheets.
And if Strubher hadn't insisted on playing Radlinger over Collins/Walton. I reckon we'd have been safe sooner.
It also helped him bringing in Styles instead of his mate Ritzmair.

I'd forgotten all about Radlinger. Struber really was an awful manager. Luckiest one we've ever had though

Yeah you're clearly just plucking things out the air here. That's not how it works. To get to the Collins level of attention is something that can't be taught or not by football coaches anyway. You'd have to spend 10 years in a Zen monastery. It's in him, it's effortless and natural too him.

I like Collins and Walton. I think they're both very competent keepers and wouldn't have a problem with either being first choice in the Championship, never mind League 1

Judging them on the skill set you would expect a keeper to have, I can't separate them. I've seen better play for Barnsley, but both these two are good.

The one area where I can make a distinction is the sweeper keeper role. Walton is pretty good at it, but Collins is as good as I've seen from any keeper in any team.

They both came through in good groups. Walton was with Will Jaaskelainen and Aaron Ramsdale up until the age of 16 when they released Jack and Aaron.
Ramsdale did talk about how he was pushed to learn the passing stuff at Bournemouth under Howe when he had a battle with Travers

Agree with all of that Jay. But I would put Walton better in the shot stopper stakes. One on ones.

Plenty of players up and down the country will have done well three years ago but now you wouldn't want them no longer. If we have Walton as our number 1 keeper we won't be getting promoted.

And I assume if Collins is No. 1. We will. ?
Done well 3 years ago ffs.
Kept us up in 2020. Absolutely outstanding Imo.
Played 22 games in the play off season. Keeping Collins out. (Val must not have known what he was doing I suppose)
Came in when the we were BOTTOM last season. (Collins no. 1 PLAYED ALL GAMES PRIOR with arguably better players in front of him)
Yet you lay ALL the blame at Waltons door. And give him no credit whatsoever.

Your mission, Jim, should you decide to accept it, is to teach Hemsworth Tyke about number ratios expressed as a fraction. As always, should you or any of your IM Force be caught or killed, the Secretary will disavow any knowledge of your actions. This tape will self-destruct in five seconds.

Collins is better than Walton. If Collins stays he’ll be first choice.

If he’s sold, as I sort of expect, I’d be happy for Walton to be first choice. If Searle is selected, that means the new gaffer sees him as better than Walton - so I’d be comfortable with that too. I don’t think Searle would have signed if he thought he’d be third choice though so I imagine Collins is expected to leave.

Out of interest, is Higgy definitely the reappearance of Hemsworth Tyke?

I mean he definitely sounds like him and has the same almost sexual fascination with premier league academy players, but just wasn’t 100% sure.
