A lot of time for us going back to signing stand out players from the lower leagues, rather than unknown punts and Premier League children.
Lovely to see they have this summer managed to change the password they had forgotten that they needed to access the spreadsheet.
Between him and the right wing back, who's just gone to Bristol City, they contributed about 40 goals and assists last season.
He's got a hammer for a left foot. He scored one against Carlisle last season that almost broke the net. He's also a dead ball specialist too. He scored an absolute pearler of a direct free kick against Salford.
He scored a hattrick from wing back last season: Would be a great signing, but with all news coming out in last few hours (Morris to Luton, Hourihane to Derby) would just be our luck he’ll end up signing for Wednesday.
This would be the first signing that would be in the pattern of the success of a few years ago - a player from the very top of the league below / L2 team of the year (Mawson/Winnall/Scowen/Hourihane etc) and so would be a welcome, if belated and rare, return to tried and trusted practice.
Doug says it's happening. https://www.barnsleychronicle.com/a...and-u23-striker-butterfill-close-to-reds-move
Serious statement of intent from the football club when this comes off. Led to believe there were many other clubs in for him so huge if he's chosen us.
I've had a look on a few message boards this past week, and there seems to be mention of him being linked to a good dozen or so clubs. In the Championship, League 1 and SPL. It would be a real statement of intent if we get it over the line, he's exactly what we've been missing from what I've read and seen.
For sure, he also fills a gap we have had for ages. We haven't had a proper LB/LWB permanently on the books since Pinillos I believe so we have been crying out for one for a while. Hopefully they can follow this up with an equally impressive striker or two within the coming weeks too.
Not to sound too 'massive' but if signing someone who played division four football last season is a statement of intent it shows how far we've fallen. He has great stats for division four and should be good enough for division three. Calling it a statement of intent seems a bit much though.
I think it’s more about gazumping bigger clubs with larger budgets. We already did it once this summer with Cundy.
