I thought Salt and Brook would both be released for finals day. Not so sure, after seeing how Roy and Livingstone got out. Not playing any games between the Netherlands series and the India series has done Livingstone the world of good!
Useless by Comical Ali as usual. Someone needs to try and hang around with Jos before he runs out of partners.
Yep, he has the odd good innings but more often than not is extremely poor. We're 5 wickets down with 36 overs left and he goes and does that. Ali recently talked about wanting a return to the test team, I hope the selectors don't entertain this idea.
Bumrah is a cracking bowler and would be in my dream world 11. But I have no idea what Livingstone was trying to do.
Again such a poor shot. There's so many over left that there is no need to be playing shots like that at this stage. It's so frustrating to watch!
Talk about changes of fortune! The test team have had a brilliant start to the home season and the Netherlands series aside, the teams in the shorter format have lost a T20 series to India are now struggling massively in the first ODI.
I think he’s a massively overrated player. Bowl outside off early on and he doesn’t have an answer. Even the other night, he got 42 off something like 30, which looks ok but isn’t very good in context of the game, and he burned a lot of dot balls trying to hit the ball for 10 and completely missing.
Just as the test side is showing signs of improvement, our limited overs teams start to struggle for a change.
It should be like India and Australia. You pick your best team for all three formats. Your one day side shouldn't differ that much from the test side. This game is an exception though. Nothing to do with team selection here.
We decided years ago to let Broad and Anderson concentrate on test cricket and Anderson is still our leading wicket taker in limited over games. I entirely agree that your best two should be chosen but, would they have lasted as long in tests if they played all formats ? It’s a good job we’ve got loads of bowlers of a good standard cos they’re always chuffing injured
Different game length and type of ball makes it difficult to have sides that are too similar. Things are getting better with the ECB though. For example in the Dan Christian book I am reading he tells a very good story about Zak Crawley. By the awful standards of our Ashes tour he did pretty well in tests 4 and 5 so Sydney Sixers wanted him and they expected him to join them for the later stages of the Big Bash because he was really up for it. Instead he wasn't allowed to and the reason given to the Sydney Sixers was Chris Silverwood doesn't think it would be a good look after losing the Ashes 4-0. The response by Christian was going back to freezing cold England with no Cricket there is a bad look. A guy wanted to make money by playing Cricket and our coach decided to stop the income stream of a player by making him come back to England.
Totally embarrassed by this performance. Feel sorry for any England fans who've gone and paid to watch it.
I've not been watching... forgot we'd gone with different coaches for different formats. Who is our ODI coach?
