Seems a decent lad and he has some ability but he just doesn't fit our system as we don't play with proper wingers. He can't defend well enough to play LWB so he doesn't really fit.
Can't see where he fits in, in Duff's 352. fits in both a 442 and 343.. Best to let go of anyone who isn't going to start to lighten the wage bill..
Personally I wouldn’t p!ss on Joey Barton if he was on fire, so I definitely wouldn’t be selling him a player we paid decent money for to just make a crap return on. I’d wanna see how Luke gets on at this level in this side.
I wouldn't have an issue with it. If the player wants to go there, then why not let him go. What would your view be if we sold someone to Newcastle. No idea what we paid In fee and wages. But may not be as bad a return or loss as you seem to think.
Isn’t it common knowledge we paid over a million for Thomas? Do you really think Bristol Rovers will pay anything like that for him? And I’m confused about that reference to Newcastle? They are now ran by abhorrent human rights abusing c[]nts no doubt about that, but their manager never physically attacked our manager got away with it amongst other crimes.
Good luck to him - hope he continues to enjoy his football and his mental health remains in good shape. Good luck Luke.
It was reported to be around 1.2m bid at the time. But we don't know how much of that was guaranteed, or dependant on performance. Carlton Morris was reported to be sold for around 2m, but many on here chose not to believe that figure. The joy of undisclosed fees...
Very true. I just wanna see what the lad can do at this level tbh. If we sell him to another club in our league and he ends up being a world beater, we’re going to look very stupid.
1. I've no idea. But I'd be gobsmacked if we paid owt like a million. And no I don't think Bristol will even pay anything close to what we paid. Whatever the figure was. 2. Re Newcastle you've answered the point. As for not letting him go to Bristol. The onus should be on the player not us. Or would you just keep him for that reason alone. Also would you refuse to sign a player from Bristol based on the same principle. That they'd played under Barton. (Whom I dislike as much as anybody) ?. I wouldn't.
Just seem to remember when we signed him it was said to be over a million. As I’ve just said to another poster I wouldn’t like the idea of us selling him to another club at this level for him to end up being decent, think the lad needs a chance to prove himself here. Barton is a hideous human being, he doesn’t even deserve the right to be called human because he’s not, guys a first class w@nker and an absolute thug. It’s known Thomas has had mental health issues in the past and one of the first things Barton did to the lad was belittle him to the press. I didn’t agree when we loaned him there in the first place, another one of Conway’s masterstrokes.
In the window we signed him, we tangibly spent £6.4m on 12 players. Some were on frees or nominal. So we must have paid a decent chunk on Wilks, Thomas and Schmidt, probably Andersen and to a lesser degree Chaplin. I think it's pretty nailed on it's yet another player (should he choose to move) that we've failed to break even on, let alone make tangible profit.
But it was decided at the time that it was the best transfer window ever? Surely that means these undisclosed fees being paid by Bristol Rovers and Admira Wacker are in the billions?
Seriously You are right about him being belittled ( and Barton is an arse in my book) . But then Thomas said it was the kick up the arse he needed. Then got in the side and enjoyed it. It's not about the actions of Barton but what the lad himself wants. I'm sure he'll not be asking for yours or my advice. Believe me he wouldn't go back if he didn't want to. And why should we hang on to him, if we don't want him, or he doesn't want us. If there are no other options on the table.
Never said we won't lose owt. But it may or indeed may not be as good or bad as anyone thinks. I never get involved in fees. But only an opinion in my own head of valuations which aren't worth a moment's thinking. I look at all the quotes in media and unless its disclosed. I rarely give em the time of day.
I suspect the best part of a million of that 6.4 went on Ritzmaier and Solbauer in January, but the point still stands. The Conway summer of 2019 won't be remembered very fondly. Looks good compared to his summer of 2021 though.
