flew there many moons ago and apart from southampton other year was the best once there, unfortunately it's easier to get to manchester shitoil airport via train with a better range of flights (pre-covid) that is, gawd knows the transport these days
without pulling the eastern europeans up, it was never going to take off without them, que david williams,
but can blame brexit, mancs lba or east midlands, all major factors now

‘Consultation’ I think is just smoke and mirrors. Nobody will book anything out of here now, freight carriers will look to hub elsewhere, Tui will just add a few flights on to Leeds Bradford or Manchester.

It’s gone. And living in Donny that’s a big shame. Flown from there a few times.

Peel Holdings will be anticipating building on all that land, just like they did at Sheffield City Airport which they also ran and made a tidy profit out of when they created the Sheffield Business Park.

Peel have outline planning permission for massive warehousing close to the airport, my guess is they're holding out for someone else to pay for it.

The best airport I've ever used. Now, we'd be best on trains to Europe but as that isn't an option, it's such a shame that the airport is likely to close.

Wizz Air haven't pulled out of DSA they just moved their european flights out to Gatwick (presumably alot more footfall out of there) as they were threatened with losing all their slots to another carrier - it was anticipated that next Easter they would return and hopefully Peel have a re-think about their plans or someone else steps in as unfortunately Peel did a similar thing with Teeside Airport that they owned - they also own Liverpool.

Fly back to Donny tomorrow, it's a great hassle free airport and it'll be a real shame if it closes.

Flew to Rhodes from DSA last month, first time We’d used it, brilliant stress free airport, we were planning on using it more often even if it meant paying more for the tickets,

Flown to Pisa, Venice and Jersey from there in years gone by. Parked in car park and walked across to departures. Totally hassle free and with new road you can be there in 40.minutes from Barnsley with few hold ups like you get going to Manc and Leeds. Even X19 went to Donny so bus was also an option. Was looking forward to flying from there again but may have to wait until this review has taken place.

Depends who 'they' were. I suspect a lot of the funds might have come from the public sector and, as the plans were agreed in 2011, no doubt included a contribution from the EU. The South Yorkshire Mayor needs to follow the example set by the poster boy for Tory Mayors, Ben Houchen, who took Teesside Airport off the hands of Peel Airports shortly after he was elected in 2017. Since then the airport has gone from strength to strength.

Peel did the same with Sheffield City and it was probably their long term plan to get DSA closed once all the infrastructure had been put in place - making further alternative development much easier to deliver.

I seriously can’t see it staying open. Most of those in senior positions have already resigned and it supposedly loses 10 million pounds a year! Lots of flights are heavily subsidised and many operators have left because it just isn’t viable. The land would be much more valuable to Peel as another use. I seriously doubt Doncaster Council could get enough funding to take it on and keep the place open.

Funding for infrastructure projects varies, and can be quite complicated. A lot of infrastructure projects in South Yorkshire will have some sort of funding from a pot that’s been allocated by government to the city region, and then shared between the local councils based on business cases they submit. I’m not sure on the first phase, but the second phase of the link road was funded by the Local Growth Fund which is Government funding awarded to Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) for projects that benefit the local area and economy. Obviously the main case submitted would’ve been to provide easier access to the airport to support growth in passenger numbers, but they look at other things too such as releasing land for development/housing/jobs etc. There has to be a return on investment or a huge local benefit for the funding to be provided.
