Starts tomorrow night at Winter Gardens. My favourite tournament of the year as it's legs so it's tougher than sets. Sets if you're 2-0 down in legs you might think the set is over so try less. You can't do that in matchplay. The quarter of the draw MVG is in is awful. If the winner comes from that quarter it will be some victory. Just been reading a column by James Wade who spent some time recently helping out at Penistone Tyres. https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/darts/james-wade-column-world-matchplay-27480951
Not my favourite tournament but the venuemakes for great atmosphere and how its been drawn will.make it fun, outside chance Simon Witlock but favourite has to be Wright if he brings all three sets of darts.
Whitlock didn't make it. 4 Grand short of getting in via the Pro-Tour Order of Merit. Michael Smith is the one to watch for me. Would love to see Danny Noppert have a run, thoroughly nice guy who's improving all the time.
Is Callan Rydz in it ? He’s gone a bit quiet since gliding through to quarters of World without losing a set ( or very few ). He is still young and did well in this comp last year.
Plays 2020 winner and last year's runner-up Dimitri van den Berg in Round 1. Tough ask but do-able if his heads on straight.
Van den Berg is in form at moment but the man to watch is Luke Humphries ….. sorry Luke but that’s kiss of death for you
James Wade is due a good run as his record since I think 2015 has been really poor. You'd think with his wife and in laws being from Blackpool he'd feel at home at the tournament and it would be like home from home, but he struggles there.
