For a few years now theres been a call for the board to bring in more experience.Kahled said at the end of last season the club would look at such experience if it helps move the team going forward. 2 months after and the club are mainly (so far) keeping to there word. The potential signing of Norwood as been greeted with comments like its a risk,or he's a journeyman or he likes a pint etc. When I looked at his stats I was shocked to read he's 31 I was expecting him to be at least 45. In the last 7 years he's been at 3 clubs,I was expecting it to be around 12. His scoring record at his last 3 clubs (from wiki) played 161 scored 48 played 165 scored 84 and played 77 and scored 26. As a league one team Norwood looks like the type of player we should be looking to sign. A blend of youth and experience is what we need and what most have been calling for.
Absolutely agree. He's tough and streetwise. Aitchison and Marsh are likely to learn a lot from being around him. He's just what we needed in my opinion, think it'll prove to be a very shrewd move.
I've been quite happy with the signings we've made as a whole this summer. Would I have liked to keep Morris? Yes, definitely. But the fact is he wanted to stay in the Championship and we have a budget deficit to handle. I don't really know much about Norwood and his background other than the stats that have been quoted, however his record seems to be good enough at this level that we could see him get 15 goals - not amazing but not to be sniffed at either. I'm getting more optimistic as the season draws near.
Me too. Although I'd like them to make funds available to go out and get a striker for a fee. A "Winnall" type signing. Jephcott sounded a good prospect. Experience at this level and some re-sale value. I liked the look of Stretton too.
But your never going to get people 100% behind anything. If they were handing £50 notes out at the turnstile some would say it should be £100.. I'd say stop looking for unity when you're never going to get it. I for one would behind Norwood signing and a couple more besides
He could be seventy bloody four and been at fifty clubs for all I care if he has got the nous and goals to get us out of L1 at the first time of acting!
And a more pertinent point is he'll probably be the new social secretary and in charge of the players Christmas doo. Any ex-pros will tell you what an honour and a privilege that is.
That’s the thing with football and why I love talking and reading about it, everyone has a different opinion, we all think we’re football experts In this case the majority of people seem to agree that this is a good signing. Majority is as good as you’ll get on football topics. Definitely as good as it gets on here
Fully agree. Barnsley in “linked with proven, experienced prolific league 1 goal scorer shocker”. It’s what Iseka, Cole and Aitchison need.
If five subs are allowed next season we could rotate the strikers. That would help Cole and Iseka as we wouldn't be overly reliant on them for the goals. It would be good to change the strikers at 60 mins like Val used to do.
Funny isn't it? It's like people are allowed their own opinions or something. In all seriousness though, I think the concerns over Norwood are more around his attitude and fitness record, rather than his goal record.
Good point. If he signs and if we get an old head centre midfielder in then we can be a force this season. I’d be disappointed if we don’t get top 6 in those circumstances.
Looking at his stats his last injury was in 2020.Since then he was appointed captain of Ipswich and continued scoring. After playing over 500 games his injuries seem quite low in comparison. That to me suggests his attitude and fitness record is very good.
Apologies for having a different opinion, making you shake your head and make you start a new thread on the subject.
Personally couldn’t care less what their age or prior club history is. All we need from this group of players is one good season. This Norwood chap might be a dud. He also might have his ‘1 good season’ and bang 20 goals in. It might turn out to be completely irrelevant if we don’t actually end up signing him!
I thought his injuries were the reason he'd not played regularly for Ipswich the last two years? Having read Ipswich's forum, there's questions over whether he disrupts the dressing room, and from what I gather, he's burnt his bridges with the Forest Green fans. I'm not against us signing him at all, I just think the deal needs to be right for us, because otherwise its another player taking up a wage that could be going to someone else.
If he does sign if he already hasn't , I think it's a no brainer for us . I can remember certain people questioning the hendrie signing ! If this lad as half of the magic hendrie had, I'd renew tomorrow . We have no chance of going up with our forward line at the moment . Cole and iseka wont do a job on past experiences. A pain in the arse striker who can score goals is what we need essentially.
