Lost opportunity to engage young uns. No wonder they're all wearing Man City and Liverpool shirts. Took grandkids expecting a funfair. A trampoline, bouncy castle and hook a cuddly toy in a bag does not constitute a funfair. No new kit in club shop. No marketing giveaways for the kids. Absolute tripe. It's down to parents to get kids interested at Oakwell because the club are doing sod all to entice anyone to go. Probably a mistake to have a friendly on the same day because there was obviously no entry to look around the ground or meet the players. After the match is a bit late for kids to be hanging about for a photo.

Man City and Liverpool open days must be truly amazing then!

Another person strumming a guitar like it's the only instrument.

Not sure what your.point is. They need to entice young uns to go to Oakwell not turn them off with a tinpot funfair. Give them something to remember, maybe a free mini kit, badges etc.

Well if you think that the Barnsley fans want the local equivalent of Vanessa Mae or Louis Armstrong I’m afraid we’ll have to disagree. Glockenspiels and bassoons aren’t in at the moment.

Both artists today were female. One was actually a jazz duo where the female was the lead singer.

Not really got one, I was being somewhat deliberately facetious if I’m honest, though I’d be worried if an open day is the make or break difference between choice of club for life.

Way I see it, most of my friends in their early teens were glory followers anyhow and then came back to the club in their college years.

For me it was more about being kettled by police at a young age and having bricks thrown over the wall at us at Elland road than open days, which created the bond (not that I’m suggesting we recreate that at next years open day of course!)

I hear there wasn't even a rubik cube stall, and there were no space invaders or pac man machines. There was no skol lager and nobody was wearing hai karate.
And nobody was whizzing around either on spacehoppers or skateboards.
    Disappointing indeed!. :(

No, but their football is good. Trophies and no funfair is better than losing every week and no funfair.

I think that the most disappointing aspect from today was that it wasn't an "Open" Day in the sense that new visitors could not get to look inside the stadium without paying.

Therefore it is not an Open Day.

It's a bit of a half cocked set of stalls and rides outside the ground.

As a kid I was enthralled by the size of the stadium and the brightness of the green grass - the arena aspect of it. It looked pretty good with the sun on it today.

But nobody could see that for nowt. So nobody was being attracted for the first time.

The team however played well and showed promise.

Couldn't people walk around the ground earlier in the day? I'd have expected them to do that and then close it for the game later

Ah, I may be wrong about that. I wonder then who had the job of kicking them out before the action started.

Fair enough but to counter that, my little lad was all Liverpool when he was about 7. Took him to the open day and bought him the ORA pin striped away kit which he loved. Other kids were walking about in the new home shirt which was also in stock. He had a look round the changing rooms in the North stand and met all the players and had his.photo took with them including Neil Redfearn and Danny Wilson. He still has his scrapbook that he filled with photos. He was smitten after that and wanted to go to every home game. My grandkids were.his kids who were bored shitless after 15 minutes
