What a sporting event that is.

Unbelievable to be able to walk around that course and follow Rory round.

Shame he couldn’t do it but Smith played unreal golf.

Looked fantastic, bit jealous if I'm honest - missed out in the ticket ballot, and other than Royal St George's last year, first Open I've missed since my first one in 1991. Did the Scottish Open at Renaissance Club instead this year.

Always remember Peter Alliss saying how amazing it was that the only thing separating thousands of spectators from these elite golfers is a piece of rope.

The town has a lovely atmosphere at any time of the year, but when the Open is on it's magical.

    Safe journey back.

I'd been playing golf a good while before I ever went to St Andrews. I had this idea it would be overhyped, over priced and over snobby. It's really not. It's a lovely little town, there's a real sense of place and history round the course and having played the New, Jubilee and Eden I've found every experience on the course friendly, relaxed and enjoyable.
It's really a great place to be.

Nice work if you can get it!!!I
I've been on ours today. It's a cheaper version and involves an old 7 iron and some air balls. It's a war of attrition on the air balls though. Lost two today. One up a tree and another in the hydrangeas. :)

Played it (and the Dukes) around 15 years ago. Still got my card with a gross 89 on it. Getting a par on the road hole was a magical, and extremely spawny moment

I don't have many good memories of St Andrews, but the playoff game in 2000 is one :)

    I'll get mi coit......

We spent a day at St Andrews on our Motorhome tour last year, it was lovely.

Did you park up on the centre circle to get most of the sun?

In the early nineties our golf gang played Old and New courses along with Carnoustie, Crail and Downfield.
We stayed at the Russell Hotel which is 200 yds from first tee !
    Highly recommended.

I’ve been back twice with the wife and just stayed for a few nights

17th is not an easy hole !
It used to be a par 5 which would make more sense for handicap golfers

Is that when Lehman won ?
If so, I was there as well.
It was similar dry conditions as St Andrew’s

Having also spent the last few days at St Andrew’s I have to agree with you, unbelievable sporting event and the organisers have excelled! No rip off culture like some events, £4.50 a bacon sarnie, £3.20 a coffee! Sufficient facilities dotted around the course so you don’t have to queue (male & female toilets), free chilled water, free sun tan cream and great viewing points on all holes!

I've played Carnoustie where I think the 18th is also a par 5 for members. Could be wrong on that but I recall being amazed that Van de Velde f****d it up when he could have afforded to double bogey it. What a melt down that was. Mind you those last few holes could frazzle anyone's brain.

The first few at Carnoustie lull you into a false sense but I was brought back down to Earth with the last few.
It was a relatively calm day as well

I think it’s the 16th which is a five or four

Lol, you must be a better player than I was cos I never remember being lulled :)
I did get a real tingle on the 1st tee with all the history that was around me. Like St Andrews there's something special about Carnoustie.
