Apparently we have joined the race to sign him according to the Sheffield Star. Owls also apparently interested
Hope not. 21 years old and hardly any misters football. We've got kids in our own academy that should play before him. Could end up being another expensive flop like ICD, Toni Silva, John Rooney, John Cofie etc.
Agreed, we need players with more games under their belt. Rather give minutes to Marsh etc. and spend whatever budget we have on one decent option to partner Norwood. Quality over quantity needed.
I'd snap this lad up 100% if we have the chance.. Type of player who can waltz round players by sound of him. Probabaly one of those that has the data showing he is worth a gamble.
Weird one for me, I usually like this type of signing with potential etc. but not convinced this time with this lad. Whenever we get linked to players I like to go around and find stuff out about them, watch clips, read articles and work out how they play and so on but just cannot find anything about this lad given his lack of minutes played. I am sure the data team have scouted him for a reason and will know 1000x more than me, but I am finding it hard to get on board with this one personally.
Waltz round other U21s though. Let’s not forget Gomes. Looked a world beater on tape, in 23s football. Competitive league football a completely different beast. On the other hand, he could genuinely be a top player. Only played 1 game for Brum though, which is a bit weird. Makes you wonder if any move would be permanent or a loan.
Odds on that Andy Cole is his agent, having been at Manchester City. I agree with most comments on here that we need to develop our own youngsters, such as Marsh, Jalo, Dyer and Aitchison, rather than bringing in another one not yet ready for first team action. BTW Sam Smith scored twice for Cambridge United in one of their pre-season games - still my top and affordable tout, as long as we clear our financial deficit through the sales of Styles and Helik.
I like the look of that Smith from Cambridge too. Looks a good player. I know it goes against some of what I said in my last post but my number one pick would be Tyreece Simpson if it was up to me. Yes he is a younger player that needs developing like this Simmonds kid, but he has EFL experience, physically suited to the EFL and worked with Norwood before at Ipswich. A lot of Simpsons strengths are similar to Norwood IMO, having those two up top together with Norwood helping him out etc. could be brilliant. In a few years that Simpson could be worth huge money. If Ipswich won't sell to a L1 rival though, I would go for Hirst (if affordable) or that Smith from Cambridge.
I know mate, but SD was asking why do players play for a certain club.....It's where they're from sometimes and it just happens. It's fate isn't it.....
I think both will get sold but not for the money we wanted or expected. Clubs will wait until we get to the back end of the window and they know we'll end up taking whatever we can get.
Doubt he will be expensive at all probably the opposite. Not sure about signing u23s players anymore. Benson had been with arsenal from a young age and Burnley 23s..... i would give the lad a chance if we did sign him though.
Or alternatively we could be playing hardball, and refusing to let him go for derisory offers that have come in so far? We just don’t know do we?
