Kickoff was always 3:15 back then, summat to do with pub closing time but historically shifts darn 't pit.

Brilliant find though, do you want to sell it?

A couple of years ago we went down to my sister-in-laws in Norfolk (Downham Market) and there was a village nearby with garage sales on so we went to have a look and I picked up an early 1970s Barnsley program for 5p.

Great find is that Ian. I wonder if the mug was produced quite recently as I can't imagine we were clued up merchandise wise back then. About all you could buy was a rosette or a rattle I'd have thought.
Remember that style of programme well. I've got a load of them in the loft.R
    :)

Not sure on that one simply because there was no actual coal mining on a saturday just maintenance & I worked underground in the early seventies & the day shift was 0600 until 13.15 , I was always under the impression that it was to do with pub times, last orders was 14.50 & time called at 1500 , we used to be in the Mount & get a last drink on last orders & make in to the ground for kick off .

The original TobyJug of Wyngrove was sold for stud to a Japanese owner. What a way to go.

Match is the 5th Round FACup tie with Luton in 1961 with Ken Oliver rising high.

Exactly like what I was thinking. Why would a Perth charity shop be in possession of a Barnsley mug?
    The answer would be interesting

The match I count as my first, certainly the first I have vague memories of. We won 1-0, a Jackie Lunn strike at the Kop end iirc.

I think Jack Lunn got the only goal to send Barnsley through to quarter finals.
I only know that from a newspaper cutting from The Sunday Pictorial

I have loads of programmes from that era although possession of my collection was passed to a relative last year. I hope she is looking after them, along with my substantial scrap book collection
