In advanced talks to sign Lingard, reports are saying he wants 180k a week which is why West Ham have backed out.

Even if its a 3rd of that for a team just promoted to the prem that's ridiculous money

Football is well and truly fecked

The wages are obscene but he's also on a free transfer. A two-year deal on £100k a week is £10m total investment.

If he had another year on his contract he'd be costing £80k a week and a £10m transfer fee. Still mental like.

Rumours they want him for 3 years. If they get relegated they will have to hope they find a buyer for him sharpish or hope they have a good relegation clause.

I think differently with transfers like this. That’s just under £10m for a midfielder well capable of getting double figures in the prem and giving them a right chance in staying up.

Worth the punt as long as it’s a 1 year deal / can be released if they go down.

Yeah I know what your saying but for a club just promoted to be throwing money like that about is crazy

Not that much of a worry though. Parachute payments are obscene so you're starting with £80m more than everyone else before you sell a player.

£5m a season with the option to easily move him on to the US. Easy to cut your losses and release someone when you haven't paid a transfer fee.

I suppose but he wouldn't want to slum it in the Championship himself and not that many teams will be happy to pay him 180k a week so the pool of clubs to ditch him to might be limited. Could see them having to loan him out and pay some of his wages if they go down.

I don't think Forest will go straight back down. They've been out of the top flight that long that they'll make a fist of things. Same bracket as Leeds and Wolves. I know Wolves had a yoyo spell but since they've established themselves again.

But again, not that big a deal if it really is £180k a week (I doubt it will be in the end). You move him on and supplement £3m a year of his salary - arguably worth the risk to get a player of his quality in your squad when trying to stay up.

That's true, if he replicates his form for West Ham a season or so ago then they have a good chance of staying up too.

I think Brighton, Southampton, Bournemouth and Crystal Palace will struggle this season.

It's a phenomenal signing for a newly promoted team. But it's an awful lot of money for someone who's talent is obviously there, but who's desire for football can be questioned.

I think he suited David Moyes and West Ham. Not sure if Forest will get the same tune out of him but worth the risk in case they do. Staying up is worth far more financially than having the issue of his wages in the Championship.

I'd add Everton and Fulham to that list too.

I think Palace will be ok though.

Forest won’t be paying him anywhere near £180k a week.

He is barmy. He would be earning more than enough money at West Ham and finish much higher in the league and have a better chance of trying to get to the World Cup. Bad career move.

What is his purchase value ?
    £20m ?
Forest could recoup this within first 2 years.
Assuming they agree a 3 yr deal, the total outlay would be £27m.

Put like this it seems like an excellent deal for club and player.
The one that has lost out is Man Utd who should have sold him when under contract

No I think Everton are backed by billionaires so they'll regroup and be fine. I don't know if Lampard is the man to take them forward though.

I might be wrong but I am sure they are limited on what they can spend due to FFP limits as they spent big over the last few seasons. They have only signed one player so far this summer which was Tarkowski on a free and sold Richarlison for a big fee but haven't got anyone to replace him yet. Unless they have a big spend soon the squad looks pants. Also as you say, Lampard isn't the best man to take them forward.
