I agree mate. I think he is best suited to either the Kyle Walker style RCB role in the back 3 or RB in a back 4 where he can use his pace to focus on defending.
Dont mind him leaving but we need a replacement.. i like j williams at league one level but out of a season he will be missing for 12 games minimum.
We've got Brittain, Williams, Helliwell and supposedly Hondermarck who can all play there. We've renewed the contracts of many of our young players. We've got to include them when looking at the squad. We're a league 1 club with excessive costs compared to our revenue. We can't go stockpiling 3 and 4 players for every position.
We also want to be aiming to get back into the Championship within the not too distant future so if there is a replacement available at the right price we have to take it.
We've plenty of defenders on the books now so I would not be sad to see Brittain go at all, especially if we get decent money. I presume some of that will go to his former club MK Dons. For me he is neither defender nor winger - he's ok at both but not good enough at either position. He drifts in and out of games and, when running with the ball, invariably runs into a dead end or scuffs his cross out of play or to the opposition. There are exceptions, obviously, but the consistency is just not there so time for a new challenge for him. As for his goal scoring record....well
We need a player who can play wing back in league one comfortably as i expect us to play 352 Helliwell has hardly kicked a ball in the 1st team, hondermark is a center midfielder we have tried to mold into a right back, j.williams should do okay at wing back but he is made of glass. If we sell britain i think we definitely need to bring a player in.
They are not after him because he chips in with goals. We have lost better players than him this summer.
Be a shame this, but I suppose needs must financially. Was brilliant for us two seasons ago, and wasn't alone in being poor last season. Good luck to him, I've no axe to grind.
Key thing will be that when the club figure out how much of any transfer fee can go back into the squad, then Duff gets a say on what positions need strengthening. With Helliwell and Hondermarck, they might still be more likely to play u23s than first team, and Duff might prefer Williams in a back 3. In which case, we'd need a new first choice RWB if Brittain goes.
Yeah I agree, that’s why I said he needs to improve his final ball. The second half of the season where he was whipping balls into Dike, he looked like a young Beckham. Last season he was poor though. I’d rather we keep him but, as you’ve said, if the money is decent then I guess we sell.
He was putting the same crosses in during the first half of that season as well, just none of our forwards ever got themselves in the box to get on the end of them until Dike signed. Suspect last season was as much down to Schopp and Asbaghi as it was the player. They seemed more concerned with keeping possession (which we couldn't do anyway), than creating chances which led to players constantly checking back.
GK's Collins, Walton, Searle, Flavell FB's and CH's Brittain, Williams, Helliwell, Cadden, Oduor, Winfield, Andersen, Helik, Kitching, Cundy, McCarthy, Moon, Sraha, Ariely Midfield Wolfe, Hondermarck, Styles, Benson, Kane, Connell, Thomas Forwards Leya Iseka, Cole, Norwood, Marsh, Aitchison, Bremang, Oulare Obviously some players can play in other positions, but just on that simple summary, we have 4 goalkeepers, 14 defenders, 7 midfielders and 7 forwards. Granted, some are likely to be bit part players, but it feels like largesse in the extreme to have a pool of 32 players for a squad in league 1 desperately needing to cut its wage bill.
If its anywhere near the 1.5 mark we are apparently selling for, id be delighted with that. I think he'd have a decent season in league one, overall I think he's a good player - but when things don't go his/our way, i think he regresses massively. And if he goes around publicly with the blame game, its not good to have around the squad. And I agree with the posts above - having completed dribbles is all well and good, but if there's no end product and nothing comes of it, what's the point? He needs to work on his decisions, when to cross, cut back, run some more, etc, but he can and will definitely improve that aspect of his game as long as he works hard and listens to his coachs. I wouldnt be opposed to just filling the spot with a loanee, since we have Honder & Williams, even our own youth who are chomping at the bit for playing time. Just gotta put our faith in Duff and his recruitment team Best of luck to Brittain if he does leave!
Presumably though SD if it were to be 1.5 million then that would almost certainly be in instalments. I'd imagine the bulk of our debt/ shortfall has to be met now or very soon not when Callum Brittain has played 100 games for Blackburn or they've got promoted. Still anything round a million would be very difficult to turn down.
Installments wouldnt be an issue, that's probably how we do our business too, I do agree clauses could be an issue though, promotion, appearance, etc as you state. Just have to hope we know what we're doing!
