I do not believe that all these football clubs are run by what cash they have in the bank. It's more likely to be credit, provided by lenders assessing owners who can afford to take a risk. Unless owners are just doing it for the fun of it. How far they're allowed to go with that I don't know, in terms of fair play rules etc I do know if a Sugar Daddy appeared with a BFC scarf wrapped round him, we'd all be delighted.
Jesus christ. Even if we aint skint board wont tell the league our figures. We ca say other teams do and flaunt but we are barnsley fc. Secondly we should all wait for higgy to tell us about this new player
Not all football clubs are. We're not. But the reason we didn't have to sell to balance the books last time is because we had significant cash in the bank. Patrick left it in the accounts and allowed the consortium to pay it off the season later if we were relegated. Hence the lawsuit/court case and the infamous £2.75m.
That's what lots of club owners do. If I'd won the £190 m lottery, the first thing I'd have done was keep £100m to myself. The second thing would have been to buy BFC out of the pathetic ownership currently existing, even if it meant them getting a healthy profit, and then we'd have all blasted it from there. If these owners are only concerned about their personal wealth, then they shouldn't be holding a stake in BFC. They shouldn't be expecting to make money out of BFC. Cos if they're not prepared to lose, they'll get nowhere.
They're probably not expecting to make money out of BFC. A salary perhaps, which is fair. But you're expecting them to lose money. And by money I'm guessing you mean into the millions. Some club owners might do it, but not in League 1. And the ones that do do it, are probably running the Clubs like casinos. Last season, only 6 clubs in L1 signed anyone on a transfer fee Only 5 clubs posted a positive net spend Only 1 club had a positive net spend of >300k (Charlton c£1m) The other 19 clubs posted either neutral or negative net spend This expectation you have that someone should be coming into the Club and throwing money at it, is just not realistic and would also probably put us at serious risk in the longer term.
There was a chance at one point this thread would be titled 'JFH'. I think the Burton fans wish it was...
It's not an expectation. It's firstly an understanding that football club ownership at our level is more a labour of love than a profitable investment. It's secondly an acceptance that it probably will cost you money ( like owning a racehorse).
