I assume that Barry Murphy holds the record, and that will never change, but what about the other players on that list? I'm interested to know if any players from the recent years make it anywhere near the top.
Really recent, nowhere near. I think Murphy had something between 550 and 600 (before my time). Hassell is probably the highest since 2000 (he finished with us in 2014), I think he just finished below 300 appearanced, but I'm sure the official statto's can confirm exact numbers.
I guess not. The only 3 I can think off the top of my head after Barry of the so called modern era would be. Nicky Eaden, Redders and sir Bobby.in that order. and I'm sure someone will come up with others. Macca played around the same time as spud was just finishing . Made over 300 appearances.
299 Bobby Hassell in all conpetitions. I'd say there's nobody in the 21st century who even comes close. Bruce Dyer made 203. Stephen Foster 244. Darren Barnard made over 220
The fact he has 299 is really annoying. Can we get a petition going to sign him up for this season just so he can get one more and get to 300 to make it a nice round number?
Adam Davies our highest in recent years, think that was 209. I doubt we'll ever get remotely close to Murphy's record given our conveyor belt approach. I think back to the Machin years and we had plenty of players who got between 200 and 300 performances. Now it's super rare anyone passes 200.
Yeah think you are right, he is at 198 or 199 something like that. Get him back in too so we can get him to 200
If Norwood stays with us until the age of 36 (five seasons) and plays every game, including the Papa John Cup etc., he will easily do it
Luke Steele although left in 2013 had 227 appearances. As to not being surpassed I reckon you are right. The only players that reach big milestones tend to be those middle of the road types in the lower tiers. Bossman gave the players the freedom to negotiate and command signing on fees and significantly higher wages in some cases.
I think both Hill and Flitcroft had a hand in limiting his appearances towards the end of his career iirc? Deffo should have smashed 300 appearances and possibly made nearer 330 ish?
Tell me about it. It's annoyed me since he stopped playing for us Surely they could have given him a little run out in one more match just to crack the 300 mark.
Career stats on wiki is where I found mine from not the initial figure in the opening stat. mind. Should have read 201 (I'd added on 14 on loan which were included in his first spell of 86. Second spell 115. )
