Anyone care to explain why exactly I'm getting emotional watching neighbours?

Not watched it for years but I could tell you the layout of every house on the street without even having to think and could comfortably name 20 people who've lived in each home too

The wife just said the same thing, not watched it for years but we have grown up watching it and remembered every cast member that was in that last episode

End of an era. Better than our own soap operas, but Australian TV doesn't appreciate it. Can't think of any show that comes close to providing so many big worldwide stars over the years. It's no wonder the Neighbours tour over here next Spring has sold out pretty much straight away when only four cast members have been announced for it so far.

Exactly. It's been on TV practically all my life and I remember getting home from school, watching CBBC and CITV till home and away cam on then switch over to bbc1 for neighbours.

It's amazing how instantly I recognised so many people I haven't seen for 10, 20 or even 30 years but it's even crazier to think how many others I'd recognise instantly to.
Todd and Phoebe with her snake (who can forget Todd being hit by a van while trying to stop Phoebe having an abortion)
The twins, Amy and Lance and also of course Anne (mainly because well Anne :oops:)
Brett and Dani stark, who they used to teach us about and normalise diabetes.
Helen Daniels and the entire Martin family. Again using a storyline to teach us about bulimia (Debbie) or that famous scene with her little sister Hannah quietly holding her grans hand on the sofa "she's not asleep. I sort of knew a while ago"
Henry Ramsay having to run through the street naked
Lou. Mayor, used car salesman, landlord, coffee shop owner and all round good guy (notice the nod to him with T. Oliver on the papers?)
    Sky bishop (calm down dreamboy)
Doug and Pam Willis, the original Kennedy's in my mind. Can't forget Cody being shot either.

I could write that list all night but you get the idea. So many people you can remember instantly. So many memories.

God I miss being a kid sometimes

My outstanding memory of my six week holidays, as a kid, was watching Neighbours at 1:30pm, going out with my mates, for a bit, but ensuring I was home for 5:30pm to watch the same episode again!!!!
I was never one of the cool kids, mind. (Sad face)

Sky was great. Hard to pick a all time favourite on looks though. Maybe Olympia Valance or Pippa Black. People mention Kylie and Jason but the show produced even bigger stars like Chris Hemsworth, Margot Robbie and Guy Pearce.

Since the heyday too many have got out of the habit of watching which is a shame. The show wasn't stale and the writing was as good as ever. It wasn't past it as some would have you believe, usually people who haven't seen it in ages to be able to say that.

I couldn't even make a top 10 on looks, it would be more like a top 100.

    Really?
No contest. Lucy Robinson went off to summer school as a plain brown haired ‘little girl’ and came back as a blonde porn star with tremendous knockers.

I haven't watched for years, but it was a staple of my uni days. Has the last episode been broadcast in the UK, or are we still months behind like in the olden days? Would like to watch it!

I'll have a go at that tomorrow.

Will definitely involve Anne, Amy, Lucy, Dani, Codie, Elly, Libby, Izzy, Dee, Catherine and plenty more though

Was broadcast tonight at 9pm. Will most likely be on catch-up or repeated. Even features the ghost of Madge bishop

I guess that’s the beauty and pain of nostalgia for you. That reflection of times gone by, the memories of those that are no longer here, and the realisation that you’re getting older really does hit you all at once sometimes and the silliest of things can trigger it.

The monologue from Susan Kennedy at the end was a brilliant way to finish, and even made me feel a little emotional.
