In that case; - Hendrie at Old Trafford - Hendrie at Bramall Lane - Hammill at Wembley (Millwall one at a push) - Marcelle at Oakwell v Bradford - errrr…. Remind me, which sub scored that second at Elland Road in April 1990? Amazing scenes!….ah yes, Blackadder himself, the one and only Owen Archdeacon! - Honourable mention to Nick Colgan for preventing a goal (pen) at Cardiff in 2006!
Youre very welcome. I dont often wish I was older, but I really do when it comes to Barnsley just so I could experience the premier league and actually remember it. To be able to watch some of our legends in the flesh. And maybe just to experience what football was like when players didn't dive half as much and you could actually put a tackle in without being reprimanded
It wasn't always better from a footballing point of view because of the pitches. The wingers - like Barraclough - always looked 10 times more skilful than the rest of the team because they played on grass all season. The rest had to cope with the elements. There's still hope for there to be new legends - I hope. Never wish to be older !!
Google didn’t seem to be of much help surprisingly, but this video was up there from 2015 on the BBS! Thanks for the assist!
Neil Thompson v Stoke 96/97 - The goal that convinced me that we were going to get promoted, 5 games into the season. And still my favourite goal at Oakwell. Gwyn Thomas away at Bradford 87/88. The Bradford keeper (Paul Tomlinson?) had been giving the away end some lip all second half, and to be fair had pulled off some cracking saves). Thomas then smacked in a flying volley from about 15 yards to equalise against a Bradford side that made the playoffs. I was 13 and I think that was the first match where I can remember swearing at a player, something along the lines of "stick that one up your f@#£ing @r5e Tomlinson." Owen Archdeacon away at Leeds 89/90 in their title winning year. Won us the game in the best away atmosphere I've ever been in. All my schoolmates at Featherstone were Leeds supporters, bar @Sheriff, and the next day was very sweet. Brendan O'Connell at home to Sheff United near the end of the 94/95 season, his second goal of the game. That Sheff Utd side was an awful one. Andy Saville's last minute winner away at Sheff Utd 89/90, their promotion season. They were a good side and had beaten us in the league at Oakwell and knocked us out of the FA Cup after a second replay. Cheeky mention for Brian Howard v Liverpool and Hammill at Wembley x2
Me too! I’d been off school sick that day and mum wouldn’t let me go to the match! We didn’t have sky back then so we went to some family friends of ours and watched on their telly. Needless to say after all that shouting and cheering I wasn’t getting the next day off……..
It’s tough to pick 5 by the way! I will try: Archdeacon v. Leicester in FA Cup. I was only about 9 or 10 so being at a night match was a rare treat. Clint v. Bradford. Obviously. Barnard v. Huddersfield. That first half was surreal, we genuinely could have been 10 up at half time! Nardiello v. Swansea at the 2006 play off final. I’m someone who’s often a bit ‘glass half empty’ but for some reason I was convinced we were going to win that day. Hammill v Oxford at Wembley. Yes Oxford, NOT millwall. I didn’t go to the play off final as the company I worked for went bust and we didn’t get paid so I couldn’t afford to go! So the Oxford effort wins as I at least I was there for that! Honourable mentions for Redfearn, Campbell-Rice, Hourahane, Moore, Thiam. And randomly, Dimi Cavares equaliser at Scunthorpe!
Darren barnards was the best goal ive seen live Jacob browns away at walsall last minute very important Clint marcelle v bradford no words needed Hamill v milwall Clarke odour v brentford 5 of my favourites
Marcelle v Bradford 1997 Jacob Brown v Walsall 2019 Fletcher v Millwall 2016 (because I already knew we'd won - no one could give us a goal start and have any hope of getting a result) Odejayi v Chelsea 2008 Archdeacon v Leeds 1990
The greatest wonder about Glav was wondering why he was here. He was far too good to be playing in the 2nd and 3rd divisions, but he stayed.
Nothing can beat Clint Marcelle vs Bradford clinching promotion to the Premier League for enjoyment Kenny Brown vs Huddersfield c1976 (my first away win) Glavin vs Rotherham 1982, 4-2 (the way he just arrived, we knew we’d won before he touched the ball and how happy he looked) Scott Jones’ second vs Man Utd to go 3-1 up. “This is sensational” Adam Hammill vs Oxford, first ever win at Wembley
