    To play with wing backs.

Personally not a fan of it at all. We haven't seen a propper winger at oakwell for over 3 years.

I'm a massive fan of having wingers. I get these are also duffs favoured tactics and he more than deserves his chance at it before judged.

Seems as well that Duff is waiting to bring in a couple of Premier League kids on loan to play up front. That will please Hemsy but do us no good as they won't be a success with us.

Back to basics, 442. Big man and a nippy striker up front, wingers on the touchline beating players and whipping balls into the box....... Simple.

    Fullbacks who's priority is defending.

Wouldn't bother me. When we sign players if they are a success with us they tend to leave fairly quickly. The fees received don't help my enjoyment of watching us lose.

Not many teams play this way anymore because it’s weak through the middle.
The midfield 2 get overrun against teams playing with a 3 and struggle to pick up the spare man. Normally one of the wingers would have to tuck in but then left the fullback exposed.
442 is sadly so easily nullified in todays tactic and systems driven football.

We were promoted in 1997 playing with wingbacks in a 532 which was the same formation but a totally different system to Duffs. The dynamic nature of the midfield in Wilson’s team was the key, unfortunately we don’t have a Redfearn, Sheridan or Bosancic to take a game by the scruff of the neck.

Kettlewell, Red Rob and Redstone like this.

Midfielders of those days don't exist at all anymore do they? It's Al holding role and number 10 these days. I miss midfielders who were truly box to box all action.

How do you know? The lad who scored against us yesterday was kn loan from a premiership team. Ashley fletcher was a great loan for us from united.
Your writing a signing off before we have even signed them and before they have kicked a ball... that must be a 1st.

It can't be any worse than what we've put up with and still continue to persist with. It's not working is it?

The only Premier League striker we've had on loan that's done well for us that I can remember is Fletcher and that was years ago now. The list of flops like Rodriguez, Walters, Ugbo etc is very long.

That 1997 team had players that could drive foreward with the ball and open things up which made a massive difference.
I don't think we've ever had such a lack lustre midfield as the one that we've got now, were desperate for a player that can run with the ball and one that can pass under pressure, Bassi on loan would do nicely if we could get rid of one or two to free up wages
