I get what you’re saying but teams like City sign 100’s of young players for their youth sides every single season and not everyone is a Foden etc. Some are going to be pretty bad that’s just how it goes. You only had to see with Claudio Gomes last year to see that. Don’t get me wrong he had more heart than most of our actual permanently contracted players last season but like a lot of them he just simply wasn’t good enough. Let’s just see how this Tedic gets on before any of us pass judgment. I’ve got to be honest though I’m not that confident in him going by his previous record and experience but hopefully he’ll prove me wrong.
I see this signing as a bit of a hold up battering ram player to knock stuff down for Norwood,Aitchison etc.He might chip in with half a dozen goals but don't think he's been fetched in as a goal scoring machine.
You're all as bad as each other. Let's wait and see what they're like in a red shirt before passing judgement.
being on the books at Manchester City is almost completely irrelevant. he hasn't made a single appearance for them. and likely never will. he's scored 2 goals in his last 38 games, in a team that got relegated. I realise you're not too concerned with data, but please explain to me how 2 goals in 38 makes him a first choice striker?
He will be one of probably over 100 kids who were hoovered up by city as they looked good at junior level. Probably 95% of these kids will never see the first team and have wasted years of potential development they could have got elsewhere by playing first team football for a team lower down the pyramid.
You'd like to think so but a good player doesn't score 2 in 41 games out on loan does he? For context, FC Zwolle's 36 year old CB scored more last season (5) than this striker did over two seasons (2).
There's a lot being made of his stint in the Dutch league last season. Bearing in mind, Zwolle saw fit to take him for a second season, after a goal return of just 2 the previous season. He was turning out regularly against the likes of PSV, Ajax and Feyernoord. Its a better standard than league 1.Prior to that, he did score fairly regularly. Okay it was in the Serbian league, but it was enough for Man City to pay £3,000,000 for him. I keep reading that Cole isn't good enough, Iseka isn't good enough, Marsh isn't ready. The club are actively trying to bring in more strikers. From the videos I've seen (I know I know) this lad looks quick, good with his feet and decent in the air. Similar traits to a couple of other non prolific strikers we've signed in recent years. It seems there's a race to be the first person to declare they're underwhelmed by a player these days. Given our financial situation, I honestly don't know what people want or expect.
''He was turning out regularly against the likes of PSV, Ajax and Feyernoord. Its a better standard than league 1.Prior to that, he did score fairly regularly. Counting goals against the dog and duck and playing against Ajax for example isn't the same.
I agree to an extent with the 2nd part fella. But you've got to realise you're going to get people's backs up when you're making disrespectful comments like that first part.
Alex Kiwomya was picked up by Chelsea aged 12. Presumably on the evidence he could run very fast (so could Forrest Gump). Since leaving the main leagues very quickly, he has played non league for Chesterfield, Chorley, Kings Lynn and now Macclesfield. In those 'pub leagues' you mention. He did have a spell of international experience with a team called Bruno's Magpies in Gibraltar. The point is, you take a gamble on a PL youngster Phil, they generally fall into 3 categories: Tammy Abraham - obvious to a blind man he was going to cut as a top player Ike Ugbo - Struggle like **** at Barnsley, but the experience does him enough good to build a career (Barnsley got zero benefit - he got it all). Same with Vito Mannone. Alex Kiwomya - struggle like **** at Barnsley and drift down the pyramids. The only two I can think of who Barnsley got a benefit from in recent years are Ashley Fletcher and George Waring. I can think of loads more who could be deemed failed gambles. We aren't in a position Phil to gamble. We are skint, and no longer in the top 2 leagues and certainly no clear pathway of getting back there. I hope it works out for the new lad (if / when announced) even if it is in the form of assists. If he is a success it will be sod all to do with his 'pedigree'.
Agreed! But we tend to go through these discussions every season. I honestly don't get why people can't just wait and see, before making a judgment about a player based solely on a specific part of someone's goal record. The same was said about Dike, Moore and Morris. If he turns out to be *****, then fair enough. But assuming he is before he's even signed, I just find that a bit weird.
don't get me wrong, I'm not slating the signing, or the player. I'm pragmatic about our situation. but looking at his stats alone isn't good reading. as for his stints with Zwolle, couple of things on that. distinctly possible that City covered his wages. also distinctly possible there was a clause around appearances. obviously conjecture, but not beyond the realms of possibility. molenbeek agreed to take oulare. as for the £3m, for me that doesn't mean anything. that money is literally pennies to them. they won't bat an eyelid at that. but yeah, bottom line is we all hope he comes in and does well.
Because a big club paid a big fee for him when he was young means nothing either. Oulare cost 6 million when he was really young and look how that ended up. ALI cost someone a few million too when he was really young. Just because someone once paid a decent fee for someone doesn't always mean they are brilliant.
I agree, but I guess the difference with strikers is it's kinda the only position that's judged on hard metrics. rightly or wrongly, it is. even keepers and defenders don't get scrutinised on goals conceded etc. seeing 2 in 38, when we already look very light up front, isn't gonna fill people with too much confidence.
