I will pass judgement once seen play (if he signs). I just don't accept the argument that he has got to be better than Norwood for example, just because he's been at Manchester City's academy. We've got our own academy players that could have a belting season if given the opportunity. If they did, the club would benefit in any transfer fee obtained for said player and we all know we are going to need incoming transfer fees for a good while.
Think someone proved otherday the signing of Morris was well received by the majority of the fan base. I certainly was enthusiastic about him. I actually made a thread about Moore weeks before we signed him, so again was very enthused when he was signed. Dike was an unknown but his record (even though it was in a poor league standard like the MLS) was decent. This lad coming in has a poor record, has a lot to prove and I hope he does. But for now I can say I’m not confident about him, I’m not outright calling him sh’te before even seeing him play.
''We've got our own academy players that could have a belting season if given the opportunity. If they did, the club would benefit in any transfer fee obtained for said player and we all know we are going to need incoming transfer fees for a good while'' compared to Doncaster and Rotherham our u18s/16s..... will be good.
Fair play to those who will reserve judgement until they see him play for us. But when someone has two goals to his name as a striker out of dozens of matches and finished rocked bottom last season, it doesn't fill you with confidence. Our attacking options that couldn't get on the bench at Plymouth like Iseka and Jalo need chances.
Iseka is the one I had hopes for this season. First impressions last season were good, he looked a decent player who could finish. Then as the season turned into a nightmare he lost his way like everyone else. It's looking increasingly like he doesn't want to be here and I suspect we're trying to offload him. Shame as he ought to do well at L1 level. It's too soon for Jalo. I'd be giving him game time in the Papa Johns to start with.
At this level a strikers record means the square root of **** all though. If a striker feels confident, suits the teams system and is well managed the performances and goals will follow. Previous good records aren't a guarantee of success - see Lukaku and Werner. Poor records don't make a poor striker like Morris. How a 6'3' striker plays and performs under one manager can be night and day with another. Chill out all and give the lad a chance.
I listened to Neerav's interview and what I took from it is exactly what you have written here. We're getting exactly what I thought we'd get as I thought he was pretty clear about the situation we are in.
Exactly. The timeline seems to be, the board say we'll have to sell players and bring in frees and loans. We sell players and bring in frees and loans, then people post about how the board have been dishonest. Can't get my head around it.
As for Tedic, don't know nearly enough to comment. A bit said about his goal record, but what we don't know is how many minutes he played in those appearances? Or if he was starting games was his game benefitting his team mates in some way, and did his presence help his team create goals. Don't even know how the Dutch top flight compares with the English leagues.
Same here...I have been crystal clear about our season ahead and what has been promised. I would add (and this is only my personal opinion) that the board change was an interim measure. Jean Cryne etc have come in (and im thankful ) to get rid of Conway. This season will be one of consolidation and I accept that due to the disaster that ensued last season, we will be selling low and bringing in loans etc to bolster our squad. I do think the coach is a very good appointment....but I'm expecting poor results until he can shape the squad.
Your last sentence proves my point exactly. I haven't said he's brilliant, I haven't said that because Man City paid a good sum for him that he's a good player, or he's better than X, Y, Z. You make out that I've made a decision on him based on his past, when I haven't. The point is, nobody actually knows? So why are we fixated on meaningless numbers, clubs he's played for etc. It's what he does in a Barnsley shirt which matters, and ultimately what he should be judged on. I had a similar argument with a former poster on this forum a few years ago over Oli McBurnie (who's goal record prior to signing for us was non existent). He said with great confidence that Darren Bent would score more for Burton, than McBurnie would for Barnsley. Based on nothing more than reputation. I disagreed, mainly because I couldn't understand why someone could write a player off without a ball being kicked. I had no idea whether McBurnie was any good, and that to me is the point.
bit more info, from his time at Zwolle 38 appearances. 2 goals, 1 assist 21 starts. 17 appearances as sub 2090 minutes played, avg 55 mins per game
I understand what you're saying. Maybe I'm just different. I find it difficult to get underwhelmed by players I've never heard of, or seen play. It just doesn't make sense to me.
I think context is relevant here though. We're looking desperately short of goals up front. Bringing in someone who has 2 goals and 1 assist in their last 2 seasons, is understandably going to raise questions. For me that's not meaningless.
My concern stems from the fact we have lost our two best strikers this summer and need goals in the team. A point which our own manager has stated publicly. Our board claim to use numbers to scout out players for us and seem to have chosen a striker who doesn't do the main role of a striker which is score goals. You might see his past stats as 'meaningless numbers' but to me it's incredibly alarming that we are placing faith in someone who has scored 2 league goals in 2 seasons. I hope he proves me wrong and if he does smash it I will be the first to come on the BBS and hold my hands up and eat the humble pie that gets served, but to me this is the first signing of the summer that I don't understand and am disappointed with. That's my opinion, if people disagree then fine but just my thoughts.

Are the club doing the statistical data stuff and metrics to identify players this summer? The number of times I've seen people mention he was at Cheltenham when players have been linked to Barnsley. Or he was someone Duff wanted at Cheltenham this summer amazed me.
I'm hoping he's intended to be a target man rather than an out and out goalscorer. Heaven knows we desperately need somebody who can hold the ball up, bring others into play and create more chances. If that's his role and he does it well, I'll be more than happy.
They claimed that was the plan in the press conference. Simply going off that. They also said Duff would get a say in who came in, hence why people mention Cheltenham players or players he has had before.
Also nothing to say Duff makes a recommendation and then the team who does the data, begins the process of compiling it. Which I hope they do.
based on one of duff's interviews, I reckon it's probably more likely the other way round, i.e. analysts do the leg work to come up with a list, then duff gets final say. one of the things he also said, is that the list of prospects he saw when he spoke to them, had many of the names he also had on his list at cheltenham.
