Sat on the beach in a lovely sunny Skeggy today. A group come along next to us with a few kids and 3 adults. Lots of swearing and shouting at the kids, while drinking their cans of Fosters (a crime in itself to me) but didn't really impact us so I thought nothing more of it. Then as they left I noticed what I thought to be a phone on the beach as I went over I saw it was one of those metal bank card holders. Then I saw all the cans of Fosters left on the beach. So rather than shout them back I just chucked the card holder next to the cans and went on with my day. The wife says two wrongs don't make a right. I was just very angry. The guilt did get me a little so as we left I picked up the Fosters cans and put them in the bin as we left. Was I out of line?
At worst it’s chaotic neutral. You didn’t throw it into the sea, or use the cards to go buy some bin liners and put all the cans in them… If you hadn’t been there that card holder would have been lost forever if the tide had come in. As it is now, there’s still a chance they will find it because you used their cans as a marker.
I would have reluctantly cleared up after them. I would also have taken the card holder and handed it into a bank when convenient to me. Sadly there are too many people who think it is someone else's job to tidy up after them. Unfortunately their habits will be passed onto their offspring. We'll done for clearing up.
You could have just handed the card holder into the police and say the pile of empty tins belonged to the card holder. But we’ll done on gathering up their mess.
You'll still find a place in heaven. Though if you ever take issue with any of my posts in the future, I reserve the right to cite this thread as evidence of what a mean spirited individual you are.
Think you did the right thing mate. Very sadly, and this is a big generalisation, the reason beach holidays in England aren't popular is because of a certain section of English people. You just don't get it to the same extent anywhere else. Unless a beach is in a party resort or used for a huge festival/party.
Apart from the language, which I'd rather not hear around very young children in public, they were just enjoying the beach like everyone else. No issue with them having a drink (though foster only barley qualifies) I just for saw red i think. The self entitled thought process of just dumping rubbish on the beach.
I would have shouted them back and explained about the cans…. Has they reacted badly, I wouldn’t have told them about the cards. Although the kids may not get their kebab supper without the cards.
I'm missing a bit of the story. When you left and picked up the cans, was the card holder still there? If so, what did you do with it?
I'm getting the impression that other posters are thinking there are bank cards in this card holder- were there? I read it as just an empty holder?
No good going to the police not done lost property since I think she said 2016 it was news to me too.
