First home game of the season and the suns out, can’t wait to get to Oakwell.

does anyone happen to know if the fan zone is up and running today?

Thought fan zone was great today. Especially liked the metal brewdog pints. Only gripe was it wasn't very clear where to recycle em - so loads just seemed to chuck em in bin.

You’re meant to bring them back! Big A-Board as you turn away and walk off with your pints.

Got a box full in the back of my car. My job for tomorrow is washing them….

Yeah I got that and did so. Didn't see the a-board though so perhaps needs to be made more visible. Especially seeing as loads were chucking em in red bins. Not a criticism as such just trying to give a bit of feedback.

For Open Day we verbally asked every person we served to bring them back or leave them on the tables to be collected. Not everybody did.

Some people follow instructions and some just forget (or can’t be bothered). Never be 100% successful with it. On to our fourth game with the first box though.

Tried to post a photo of the A-Board but I’m rubbish at doing that on my phone!

Fair enough, verbally communicating would've worked for us to be fair as none of us noticed the sign. We ended up asking one of the guys in hi-vis who was fishing them out of the red bins. Maybe a separate recycling bin would work?

Could be a good idea. But people were putting their rubbish in the food bank collection bins today so not sure if that would work either.

One off 50p charge might be the answer…..

Jesus, maybe there's no hope then. Although I think a quick solution to that would not have the food banks as wheelie bins. I guess it's just folk not paying attention. With regards to the pint pots, I thought with the quality it was quite clear they needed recycling somewhere, but wasn't quite clear where. 50p charge might be a solution also.

That’s fair. My first reply of ‘Bring them back!’ was just a joke to be honest, as we say it so often but probably less so when there’s a queue of like 20 people waiting.

Regardless, I think it's a great initiative mate and the brewdog pale tasted much better in one of those pots than a plastic one.

The thing with that is lazy people will feel more justified in throwing them away as it’s their 50p they can choose to disregard. It’ll probably encourage kids to collect them and claim the 50ps though which is good and achieves the same objective (so long as they don’t ‘empty them’ first though. Might be a faff collecting and returning 50ps. I think the solution is probably just time. I imagine it’s probably a lot of the same people every week and they’ll get the idea before too long. Maybe a sign on the bin with a picture of it saying ‘don’t bin it - take it back?’ Or someone collecting them? If they are spotted by people going around then people will realise they’re not meant to be binned. An extra person would be needed for that though.

I so wish we had that many volunteers……

Other ideas are good ones though.

Reminds me of a night in Newcastle about 1974/5 when me and a couple of lads (John and Les, all of us from Yorkshire) gate crashed a party with a bottle of broon ale - with 5p back on the bottle, long story short, we collected loads from several parties and took them back to the halls of residence in Les's car. We took them back to the offy next day, I think we got a fiver....

Yeah a sign on the bin sounds a good idea. As you say someone collecting them requires more people. There was a bloke today who was literally picking em out of the bin. Presume he was just a genuinely nice bloke though and that wasn't in his job description.
