Bird shi.t another season starts with crapped on seats then, nowt new, like the crap concourse catering been going on for decades. Could probably do with someone to represent the fans and finally get something done abart this cos club seem not to give a toss.
The birds could have dumped on them after the check, who knows, probably quite difficult/ impossible to make sure EVERY seat is pristine before a game in a outdoor venue.
They could’ve, but it’s kind of easy to tell whether it’s an accumulation over weeks/months or an opportunistic bird in the last couple of days.
There are more that enough youngsters on the books. These kind of jobs should be part of their apprenticeship as such.
We have to acknowledge that the days when apprentice footballers did jobs like this, the fitness standards of the first team were a million miles from where they are today. if our academy spend their week picking litter and painting fences, we can forget any notion that any of them will ever be successful footballers.
FYI. Sanitising wipes are not necessarily adequate. The must be labelled as disinfecting wipes as only they will kill the dangerous fungal infections that may be present in bird( particularly pigeon) droppings. Nevertheless, as a previous poster has said, regardless of whether or not a venue is indoors or out, the responsibility for providing a safe environment rests with the owners. Are you suggesting if your assigned seat is loose and could collapse you should bring your own set of spanners to fix it? Both droppings and faulty fixtures are potentially dangerous and I would venture to suggest the long term effects of lung diseases is far more serious.
I suspect that two or three hours a week for a dozen or so apprentices on a rota basis (one week in three? No idea how many apprentices we have on the books) is hardly going to impact fitness levels. There may be 20k plus seats in the stadium but only a fraction are likely to be contaminated with bird poop that needs cleaning off. Also that sort of activity keeps them 'grounded' .
Call me old fashioned but these kind of menial jobs were the making of people. Guess you’re right though, not going to happen any more is it?
I don't know if it's spread to pigeon populations or if it's capable of it, but there is a really bad strain of avian flu thats killing huge amounts of our sea birds and it can be passed to humans. It seems to last for around a month outside of the body, so any dead bird or any of its secretions are likely still infectious. I'd think assessing the situation and cleaning it, while trying to prevent it occurring again should be a very high priority.
I knew someone who kept Budgies. He developed a mystery illness. The Doctors couldn't ascertain what it was until he told them he had an aviary. There's a few diseases spread through contaminated feathers, droppings and the dust particles from their feed, bedding and those combined. Nasty stuff. Some of the symptoms are like MRSA.
Supporters must be like Birds, piss all over the Toilet seats and just leave it for someone else to sit in / clean up...... Bird **** get the f**k a grip
Well I’d guess I’m not old fashioned, cos doing menial work just made me a bad tempered bloke. And doing work that stretched me and made me think gave me a sense of purpose. But that’s not the point, I want our academy team to be fitter and faster than the opposition, to have spent time in classrooms studying tactics, so they can move into the first team and make Barnsley a top half championship team.
I once went to Whitby Town for the first Pre Season friendly V Borough. We should the thankful we don`t have Herring Gulls roosting in the stadium.
