Given the current kit situation that we have before us and will probably take a while to resolve I have decided to try and get some older Barnsley shirts to wear this year rather than the current one.

I have been thinking of trying to get some older ones for a while as we have had some brilliant kits over the years and now seems like the perfect time to do so. I had loads of the old ones growing up but they have gone over the years, even if I did still have them they certainly wouldn't fit me anymore anyway.

If anyone has any old Barnsley shirts from the mid to late 90s/ early 00s that they would be willing to part with in XL or XXL please let me know. Be happy to buy them off you etc.

Main ones I would like are either from the 98/99 season as those are possibly my favourites. Or any from the 96 promotion or from the prem season. Appreciate those are ones lots will want and like to hold onto but if anyone knows anyone who might be selling them I would appreciate it.

I also love the green Big thing away kit (I know the Big thing sponsor was also a little dubious) Not sure what the story is with that particular sponsor as I was only around 6 when that came out but for some reason I love that kit.

It is nice but it is a remake that costs near £40. I have seen the real one it was based on sell for less or similar on Ebay. Would prefer the real thing if possible but that option is there as a back up.

Saw glimpses of him in Luke Thomas at the weekend, playing in the hole.

My favourite shirt was the Isoft Admiral one from our relegation season 2001/2. I bought a 2xl because I was a fat ******* at the time. That summer I bought a push pike to get to a college summer job and lost the excess weight in no time. I sold it to a mate when I was apprentice at Linpac in 2003 for a tenner as it buried me.

I probably wouldn't fit into it now though. Only thing wrong with it was the material pulled easily.

Been trying to get some from eBay recently but issue is that a lot of them are held by shirt sellers who over price them. A lot of these older ones go for between 20 and 60 quid on bid, seen several sold items in that range which I would say is very fair, especially when many have been worn and have general wear and tear on them.

These resellers are trying to get nearer 100 quid a shirt which I can't pay or justify. There is a really nice old training top in my size on eBay that someone wants 70 quid for. Seen some people trying to get 150 to 200 quid for some of the 90s shirts too which is very over priced.

Looking back online, we had some belting shirts during the 90s. The Ora ones are my favourites for sure I think.

I had the burgundy Bigthing BFC training shirt with zip front to the chest. The Admiral on the back was printed on and came off in the wash but Bigthing was embossed and survived the test of time. I ended up throwing it out.

I had all the Ora ones as a kid but I was a few years old at the time so no chance they'd fit me now even if I had kept them. My prized possession as a kid for years was the purple goalkeeper shirt my Grandad bought for me. I swear it was a year with Isoft sponsor. It had the elbow pads on it to protect you when diving etc. I wore it all time, it was ace. No idea where it ended up but I love that top.

You'll be very lucky to get the genuine thing for less than that nowadays.

Retro football shirt collecting has had a massive boom since the pandemic. The cheaper shirts are being snapped up on ebay and relisted at twice the price.

I often have a look at early 90s shirts on ebay, and they're very rarely listed for less than £100 unless they're either really big or really small.

Edit: Apologies, I've just seen your post further up where you've essentially said the same thing.

Seen some in my size within the last week or two from 90s go for under 50 quid on bid as I was trying to get them but they were listed before my pay day so had to bow out. Some went for under 30 quid but had some noticeable wear and tear on them which impacted the price.

You can still get them for a good price but you have to be patient and its hard to do so with our shirts in particular as there aren't as many out there compared to say shirts from an Arsenal for example. The issue is what you mentioned though, many resellers are getting them on bid and then re listing for 2 or 3 times the price.

If you want sumat that bad ask a friend or family member to lend you the money. I collect 00 model railway items and regularly borrow the money off my Dad. It helps that I have the stuff delivered to my parents in Pontefract and my Dad is a keen collector too.

In fairness I could have dipped into my savings if needed, just trying to set a price in my mind and stick to it with each one I see so I don't over pay. With the two I missed out on, one had what looked to be an ink stain on front so I wasn't willing to go higher than 25 quid so lost out there. The other I really wanted but it expired while I was out and about and someone sniped it last minute and I just wasn't able to bid again.

It is tough. The price variation is massive. Obviously the very rare ones in great condition go for over 100 quid, thats to be expected. But there are a lot going within the 30/60 quid range which I would say is fair.

Some gone for less like the one I tried to get with the stain on the front etc.

Really regretting giving my old shirts away a few years back. I had loads all the way back to the Gola one from 1993 with the different red shaded splashes
