I think we need to get back to basics and start playing 4-4-2 again. Two wingers and two wingbacks overlapping. Central midfield mopping up if we can't bring in a midfielder with that bit of craft. I think as a club we've binned off wingers too early. Collins, J.Williams, Anderson, Kitching, Styles Thomas, Connell, Benson, Cadden Norwood, Aitchison.
A target man would help. Crosses into the box with a big lad in there who has a physical presence can always create chances from knock downs or second balls.
Our problem when we've had big lads such as O'Grady etc is we've been playing looped balls or diagonals to them in the wrong areas. There's no point playing Tedic and putting in looped balls twenty yards form goal or trying to pick them out on the flanks.
We won't be shifting to 4-4-2. Let's give Duff time to get his ideas across to whatever squad we've got between now and January and see what he can do. Some interesting points from his Boro interview, where the suggestion was our eventual playing style is akin to Wilders style and approach. If we can play even close to what the blunts knocked out under his tenure, I think most of us would be pretty content with that. But at the minute, he's inherited what he's inherited and there are still more players to come and go. One poor display, one fairly decent one. We've definitely had worse starts.
