You do, but you don't need it. Maybe for the Ashes.

My guess is that the ecb wanted a franchise t20 competition, but had no chance of getting the counties to agree to it, so had to come up with a new format.

To be honest, I don’t mind the format in isolation, and there are some plus points to it. The impact it’s had on the women’s game as well as the more family friendly atmosphere in the crowds compared to the stag do atmosphere at many blast games.

But the allocation of franchises is just a mess, as is the knock on effect that it has on the schedule.

Yorkshire (because what else do you call them, 'Northern'?!) letting this run away from them.

Don't worry. Get ready for Wolvaardt, Healy and Rodrigues to put on a show in the ladies game.

Only two Yorkshire players, one who hardly ever plays for us, in the ECB Pop Chip team, rest are over-the-hill mercenaries or nobodies from all over the place.

Is it right what I'm hearing that the ECB are banning Test Cricket in August from next year so this abomination will be the only thing going on? Apparently the 2023 Ashes will have to finish in July ffs.

The ECB seem to make the FA look vaguely competent.

Call me a dinosaur, but I still haven't really got my head round T20. I've had a few fun evenings at Headingley watching it, but it feels to me a bit like watching the old masters football or trick shot snooker - it's a fun sideline to the actual game. If you treat it as such, it's entertaining but not a patch on the real thing.

Then they brought out this extra thing, and I have absolutely no idea what it's for, why anyone would want to watch it, or what it's meant to contribute to the game. I genuinely couldn't tell you a thing about it.

Maybe once I've understood T20 I'll catch up on this.

Only story I can find is in the daily heil which I am not linking to but they are blaming Bairstow and Stokes who have pulled out of this series to concentrate on the tests. If the tests are finished they wont have that excuse and will have to play in this far more important competition

Hoping the Heil has it wrong as usual but it looks plausible

At least T20 is Yorkshire players playing for Yorkshire. This is a complete mish-mash where Yorkshire players end up playing all around the country and the team that plays at Headingley imports players from everywhere. I like the fact that we can see top internationals playing in the English game but it's certainly confusing. I have been watching the northern games and each time a batsman comes in I look up who he is and where from. It's franchise cricket I suppose and is likely to be here to stay. I don't mind the actual play but can't stand the crowd involvement and hysterical PA announcers.

As Bones would have said "It's cricket Jim, but not as we know it".

Back to normal cricket : our second team the Lions have comprehensively beaten SA by an innings thanks in a big way to Brook getting 140.
Other good news is that Robinson bowled 36 overs in the match and took 5 wickets ( without getting injured )

They play on Sunday like the Superchargers do. I prefer the women's game in the Hundred. We watch quality mens cricket on a regular basis that's more meaningful. The women have really benefited from the extra exposure and there are a lot of good players around. The innings by Beth Mooney earlier was a cracking knock. Amanda Wellington got three wickets with her spin. Both are Australian which explains why they stood out.
