Great reply Mr Khat,as you say it’s so easy to get out of hand and chase, hard to stay disciplined but never thought of it as percentage so might help me not to think why that horse not won because as you say playing at that price range you will get some defeats
You've lost as soon as you put your bet on. That's the way I look at it. I like to back multiple runners in a race with my stakes ranging. I put them in multiples and go each way where I can to try and hit the big one as I don't believe in placepots.
The best thing about it. If there had been another horse with decent trainer, jockey or ownership in the same race that was unraced I'd have backed that instead. I don't like backing horses in maidens that have run or novices that haven't won before. To me they've had their chance and weren't good enough. Always open to a possible improver or unknown beating them.
Yep I try and steer clear of 2 year old races completely. They are only babies and are treated accordingly by the jockies and there is usually no meaningful form lines etc. Similarly with maidens/ novices but then again, we all back horses for different reasons and the enjoyment comes in picking your horse and hopefully a winner.
Picking them is half the the enjoyment for me. Once I've put the bet on. It's easy for me to go out and do something else and watch it as if I was watching it live later that evening or afternoon. Never understood those punters that are constantly looking at their phones.
There’s also the folk who go to a meeting and feel compelled to have a bet in every race ( so they get their moneys worth ! ) A day at the races is a social event and drinking of course ! Serious or semi addicted punters don’t seem to go live as much as they used to as every race is on the telly and a bet is a click on your phone. It was much better when you got a hand written betting slip
I like to bet in every race I have an angle on providing I have the money. If I don't fancy a horse in a race I leave it alone. I bet £2 win on a horse 4/1 or higher and £5 win between 15/8 and 7/2. Lower than that and it's got to be pretty nailed on in my opinion. I've been known to have £10 or £20 if the horse is right and I'm not doing too badly. Like I mentioned earlier backing more than one horse in a race doesn't bother me either. If it's a big handicap or simply if I can afford it and not being able to make up my mind between a few horses. For example the Juddmonte I can't choose between two. So I've backed them both.
Good on yer but he is a seriously good horse. If I have a bet, I’ll do direct f/cast Baaeed win and Mishriff second at about evens. The Juddmonte is generally won by 1st/2nd fav
Mishriff needs to stop blowing the start to have any chance. I'll be looking to play in the without the favourite market I think - Alenquer at 8s is worth a poke i think.
That 1.50 at York tomorrow is the ultimate no-bet race for me. Timeform have no less than five horses jointly top-rated with another seven just one pound behind. Racing Post Ratings have eight within a pound of each other. No doubt someone on here will back the winner (probably Mr Dawson!) but it sure ain't my kind of race. In the Acomb Stakes (2.25) all six are potential big improvers and I find it hard to split them. I'm happy enough with Aikhal at 10/1 in the Great Voltigeur (3.00). I have doubts about the form of Secret State and Deauville Legend, and the other three don't look good enough. Baaeed shapes like he'll stay ten furlongs and if he does he wins the 3.35. The 4.10 is another tight handicap and is not for me. But I do like Pink Crystal (4.45). Top on Timeform and her turn of foot at Brighton last time was visually impressive. 5/1 is more than fair. The 5.20 is very competitive and I'm not a fan of nurseries.
If you need to have a bet on tomorrows 1.50, it’s sensible to back ew as you’ll get payout on first 7 with SkyBet or Bet365 and hit the jackpot if it wins or still win a bit if finishing in first third of runners Prices show about 9/1 the field at the moment. As you’ve said though it looks very likely to be a blanket finish
Highfield Princess has been declared for the Nunthorpe (3.35) on Friday. I am gobsmacked to see two firms are still going 12/1 after the final declarations. She can not possibly go off at that price if she runs (and it's now NRNB if she doesn't).
