I was a bit young for the Thatcher years (16 when she finally left). I recall the Major years and the constant sleaze and scandal. Though I did feel there was at least responsibility when scandal broke. It certainly doesn't feel like that anymore. Well, not in politics and relatively rarely in big business too (as long as political affiliation is blue).

I always thought you were my age or older! They still had to be pushed into resigning , she had her favourites that shedding want to let go easily like Parkinson. I was meaning more the sense of doom, aids being the covid, increasing costs for the working class, all the patriotism to disguise this, the threat of the cold war /Ukraine etc.

I know I know... I'm wise beyond my years ;-)

I'm sure if I'd been more of working age and seen things through that prism, I'd likely be in agreement with you. Though i do recall a fair few resignations, though they were probably under Major more. It seemed under Johnson that anyone could do anything and they'd not have to go. Johnson just left like something completely different to anything before him. Though I fear Truss will be even worse... as incredible as that sounds!

I think its probably worse. Under Thatcher she had a plan to flatten the Unions and in particular groups like the miners to benefit most others in business - it wasnt a good plan but I could see some form of logic behind it
This lot are to quote Johnson "F*cking Business as well" its only a select few of the really rich who are getting any benefit from these in charge

The old saying "If you vote Tory you are either a Millionaire or stupid - check your bank statement to find out which you are" has never been more true

Most of them I think they have good lawyers who check things before publication and they don't often get it wrong though there was the famous defeat by the Yorkshire Rippers Missis when it appears they did make an error which they admitted and offered to correct but she refused - the size of damages was way out of scale though leading to Hislops famous I['m a banana comment though the damages were reduced by over half a million quid on appeal

Interestingly the News of the World was later able to prove in a separate case shortly afterwards that Mrs Sutcliffe had benefitted financially from her husbands crimes (substantially Private Eyes claim though they got some details wrong) and won their case

There’s a popular narrative which asserts that since the MI5 raids on the Guardian back in 2013 over the Snowden files it has become a willing mouthpiece for certain powerful interests.

Another step towards an authoritarian state.

The amount of coverage we get about America is ridiculous when compared to other nations, particularly our nearest neighbours.

Take for example yesterday and today (this is Sky (now owned by the US company Comcast) but I suspect BBC is following suit). Coverage of Liz Cheney in Wyoming facing an election and being removed. Repeated every half hour and correspondents actually out there giving air time to the republican nut jobs. Then veering towards air time for Trump. It has zero relevance at this time to a UK audience. Yet every around 5 of every 30 minutes was devoted to it and again today.

For a long time now, we've had such little coverage of the world but in particular our European neighbours. The only coverage we see to have of Europe is when we're upsetting the EU and the media spin it like it's their fault. But even that seems to have been cut right back.

The balance of our media is dreadful and it's going to get even worse. I'm pretty sure I heard something a few weeks ago that suggested companies could have longer and more frequent ad breaks. I certainly don't want the UK to get any closer to US behaviours and practices at all. Quite the reverse.
