Seen a lot worse refs thought he was a bit lenient with his cards but other than that he did OK. Sure there are some decisions I didn’t agree with but I’m far from impartial. We were excellent though and didn’t need to rely on the ref to help us out. Best performance I’ve seen from us since we played Middlesbrough last season

I thought he was decent the first half hour. But then let them get away with everything after that. They could have had 5 or 6 yellow cards just in the 15 minute period leading up to half time. He had the chance to stamp his authority on the game, and he didn't bother.

That's the point I was trying to make though - if we hadn't won the match and didn't play well, those decisions would have been a lot more relevant. Perhaps when I watch it back I'll change my mind a little, perhaps it's just cos I very, very, very much dislike Barton :)

Well a couple of the fouls Marquis did were quite ‘naughty’ and should’ve got booked. As I said I didn’t think he had a bad game at all, but he certainly wasn’t excellent. I also remember him playing on a couple of times for us where their wasn’t much of an advantage, just coz you have the ball it doesn’t mean you have an advantage. Marquis didn’t stop fouling either he was much less obvious. BTW we played Bristol Rovers not Luton;)

Marquis was a bit niggly but I like that and he was only doing what Norwood does so overall I thought the ref had a good game.

So you would complain if Norwood got booked after getting pulled up for at least 6 fouls, (a couple of them being more than niggly) Am I missing something or have they done away with the persistent fouling law. I don’t think the ref had a bad game at all, but thought he was very lenient with Marquis, other will wonder why he wasn’t so lenient with them.

He was definitely making allowances for the conditions but he did let a few fouls go that were not at all weather related.

On the subject of fouls. I always view the BBC website 'Match live text/stats' page during, or after, the match and there seems to be a common factor. Fouls awarded against Barnsley seem to be consistently 60-110% more than fouls for Barnsley with the rare exception (that was commented on by one poster here at the time) where Barnsley had been awarded only 2 fouls for with about 10 times as many against) That stinks, as no side only commits 2 fouls in the entire game.
Is it coincidence, naivety from young inexperienced Barnsley players, cynical fouling introduced into the game plan by manager's tactics, inexperienced referees who fall for experienced opponents 'old man-ing' the ref, or something more sinister?

I am not a conspiracy theorist but, whilst all fans at most less fashionable clubs tend to feel refs have 'got it in for them', the stats don't lie.

Drysdale he's the ref that went head to head with a Ipswich player a couple of seasons back thought he was ok last night. Judging refs is hard we all look at it with red tinted specs we all do can't help it.

I also think he did a decent job especially with the advantage followed by the bookings.
I missed the part where he booked the "Luton" players though!

Thought he did ok Feared the worst when I saw it was Drysdale. Only thing was when he gave Marquis a talking to after a foul and pointed out his previous fouls he pointed to 5 different places so should have been a yellow card for persistant fouling

That was the biggie for me....I think there was a real naughty one on half way, where he left a foot in (can't remember who it was on) but that was a booking on its own yet that was only about his fourth persistent foul and so it went on.
Overall a decent ref but could have dished out more cards.Thomas in particular was receiving a lot of (ahem) attention.
