With 15 minutes to go I just couldn't do it. The worse Barnsley team in my life time. Not only on paper. On the playing field too. Wycombe have better players in every department by some distance. We should be able to attract players they can get. We should be able to attract a Clarke Harris and Marriott what Peterborough can do. If we can't. We might as well build another Aldi on oakwell. We are stuck with what we have got running this club. We will be competing with lower league 2 sides very soon. It's been coming. We've just struck lucky with some lucky gems to save us. Now we are empty. It's embarrassing
Nay nay nay Mr Wilkes, we have a new board now all’s good new shirt sponsor great service in snack bars
Worst in your lifetime? If you were born in the year your username suggests then that is way off the mark. The side that started in this division under Steve Parkin and then Glyn Hodges was worse. WAY worse.
Was also an absolutely awful 45 minutes. Was a decent, if not spectacular, first half against the Playoff Finalists from last year. Still unsure how we went in 1-0 down at the break. Proper smash and grab on their part. But some home truths need telling after that second half performance.
Agree wo a extend we should be able to attract better players than posh but worst barnsley team ever... no
Their first goal was very well worked. We had dominated up to then. The problem is the capitulation. I'll leave it to Duff to sort that out. Doesn't help it is Ipswich away next Saturday. Not a happy hunting ground. We need to keep the faith in Duff & hope we can bring a rookie finisher in on loan from a top club's U23's. I realised at the start of the season mid table was really all we are going to do.
can’t say I agree there. We still had some quality there even if ir was just Dyer. Now we have nothing bar a decent keeper
Kinda shows the importance of scoring the first goal because up to then i honestly thought we’d been the better team.
I don’t understand why at 1-0 down to a goal which wasn’t quite against the run of play but we had the slightly better of the first half - we quickly went to a 442 formation in the second half which just didn’t seem to suit us. We lost any effectiveness from Styles and Williams and gave the initiative to Wycombe. I found this mystifying- also thought Thomas didn’t seem to know his role in the changed system. I also recognise that we desperately need at least 1 striker - I’ve been reasonably impressed with Aitcheson’s play in previous games but he does not have a striker’s instinct and the chance he didn’t put away just after we went 1 down was hard to watch.
Anthony Kay and Neil Austin? Can’t think of any others. Was a really bleak time, as the last minute goal from Rankin proved.
My worry about our obvious lack of nous and depth up front, today anyway as I missed Brizzle, is that we don’t get bodies forward. On that basis it won’t matter who’s up front because far too often it’s one person to aim for. Fine pulling Aitchison and Cole wide or deep, but you need at least one of your midfielders to bomb in to the box or your wing backs to surprise the opposition with a deep run. We’re three weeks in to the season. Takes longer than that to get your ideas across. The switch to a back four was head scratching though.
We were playing stupid football. The poorest man's version of Wycombe's own tactics. When Wycombe press each of our midfielders whenever they get near the ball - hardly let them turn - whose job is it then to make us still a team capable of playing attacking football? The answer is that either the team did not follow coach's orders, or they were not given sufficient guidance, or that they're that crap that nowt could be done no matter what.
Helik anderson, connell and benson both decent at this level styles possibly? Its not the worst barnsley side ive ever seen. Its not great ill be honest and i dont envy duff but the worst no chance.
The difference between us and them today is that they worked the ball into decent areas before shooting. Aitchson tried one first half that was to the right of the pen area with a player in front of him and then did his best to miss the chance he should have scored. Personally would just play Norwood from now on too we probably need a natural striker on the pitch from the off to try and get ahead rather than from a losing position.
Wasn’t stupid football in the first half though. I’m leaning towards players not following instructions and shirking a bit of responsibility the longer the second half went on.
The first half wasn't great. It was a million miles removed from Tuesday. We're in trouble, it seems to me. Unless we get some bodies (to love) in.
