It's a sensitive subject, so ought to be an anonymous poll.
As I understand it, you're wanting to get a feel for numbers & don't need to identify individuals affected.
Only an opinion & appreciate it's your thread and poll.

Yes I have, which leads to another point I didn’t ‘t make. Certain posts are made in such a way to provoke a reaction and not necessarily an opinion. Then we hear the cry of ‘pile on’ and such.

Hang on. "Don't shoot the messenger" or variations of that, applies when the messenger is simply relaying someone else's message. It isn't really a valid defence for posting things and then saying "shoot the message not the messenger."

    For example

"I heard someone at the ground yesterday saying that taking the knee is pointless and giving too much power to black people."
    - I'm the messenger, don't have a go at me as it isn't my view.

    as opposed to
"Taking the knee is pointless and gives too much power to black people"
    - come for me as much as you want as it's my message.

Just a thought like but "shoot the message not the messenger" doesn't work when the messenger wrote the message.

Yes good point and it may make a difference to the outcome but I would like people to stand up and make a public stand against it because i would think there is more than just me who has received personal attacks on here and been affected by it.

Its not difficult to understand you can argue the point or message without calling the poster or messenger a cxnt.

I take the cxnt point but are you really saying that no matter what people post then no criticism of them as a person should be allowed to be made?

All threads are created to provoke a reaction or opinion otherwise its a pretty short thread, just no one should abuse the poster unles they are making nasty discrimintating posts then hopefully step in and ban them first.

TBF RT. Farnham did say most. Not everyone.
Of course there are a few like you mention. And on occasion others step in to mediate. Or tell em they are bang out of order.
Most of us from the left, say. Challenge tories on here and our views are known. But I don't think I or most (note most) have ever been abusive to others with a different view. That just ends in a slanging match
I personally, certainly vent my spleen on the tory government. For that I wouldn't apologise. That will most likely never change.
Bunch of cnuts . Sorry admin.

Yes thats it exactly and think it is a reasonable point of view as we are all different and entitled to our views unless like i have said that the poster is being nasty then hopefully admin will sort it beforehand. If someone makes a racist, sexist etc remark then call them out everyone, if they have a differing political stand point then argue it not insult the person for having it.

Depends. Did the person in question post abhorrent Tory views in order to get labelled that?

You’ve missed my point there, Firstly by posting in a certain way and knowing this forum they are deliberately and wantingly attracting a certain response/s. How many times have we seen long threads die down/ phase out and another similar thread or post reappear. I get that this is often a feature of this forum but don’t cry about it when the responses are of a similar nature

you started off agreeing with red-taffs comment of don't shoot the messenger, shoot the message but now concede that's only in certain situations and in others shooting the messenger is actually the correct course of action. Interestingly its specifically the things that you post that you believe come under the banner of don't shoot the messenger and things others post that don't.

By making a "mistake" I assume you're referring to a right wing loony WUM who was found out to be lying out of his back teeth?

Missing a posters point or not reading the post properly happens a lot and causes extra issues.

Anyway at the risk of being accused of ‘piling- on’ I will respectfully butt out of this thread

I used to work with someone who prefaced almost all of his dodgy views with the phrase "No offence, but..."

Anytime anyone offered a rebuttal to his crap he would always play the innocent party because he'd clearly said he didn't want to cause offence (despite the fact that the majority of his views were abhorrent and against most social norms).

Ok a nice simple question. You say that sexist or racist views should be called out. You say that political views shouldn't. Fair enough. Should posters openly lying on the BBS be called out? As that is what was called out when Tekkytyke did it numerous times.

I love the bbs how it is to be honest.

There have been plenty of times people have disagreed with what I’ve written, occasions where individuals may have taken exception.

Certainly occasions I’ve called out people for their ‘opinions’ if I’ve found them counter-intuitive or at times even abhorrent. I’ll continue to and welcome anyone to do the same to me if you feel the same about what I write.

The vast majority of times I’ve seen people claim they’ve been ‘bullied’ or subject to a ‘pile on’ is when they post something political - generally a right wing view domestically or especially a brexit supporting one - and that ‘bullying’ is generally to my eye suggestions of selfishness, or repeated requests to give any evidence or justifications for their post - always ignored, until such time as they flounce back claiming to be bullied.

That doesn’t cover 100% of course. Yes I have seen posts which were unduly personally attacking and bang out of order, have called some of these out, (other times there has been no need to as plenty of others had done so) and these posters don’t tend to stay around that long.

I don’t post on here for likes, or to be agreed with. It’s a discussion board. There will be different views, though as someone else has said we are mainly all from a similar demographic so will often have similar opinions on certain subjects in the majority. There is a difference in the majority of people having a view different to yours and challenging it - and that majority bullying you. Just because your view might be in the minority on this particular medium doesn’t mean you shouldn’t question the majority view or offer your own differing way of seeing a particular subject - and you might actually be in the majority in society at large. We aren’t particularly representative of all the country.

We have Barnsley FC as the main theme and what links us all - but the bbs in any of its formats has never been solely a football forum.

I can be argumentative on here, as in life generally to be honest, and I’ve never from memory said a thing I’d not be happy to in person to whomever I said it. In fact given I have to write it I probably edit myself more on here than I would in the boozer or wherever. There’s no hiding behind a profile name here. I make no apologies for my views, and if challenged I’m happy to discuss anything and give you my thoughts / justifications for any of them.
