The potted shrimps perhaps? Can't think there is much else to recommend Morecambe apart from its proximity to the Lake District.
Nothing will happen till deadline day for us and even then I’m expecting probably just the one player.
Duff says in the Chronicle that we could have signed loads of players but they might not have been the right ones. Have a bit of faith. It hasn't exactly been a desperate start to the season. Win on Saturday and it will be our best start since 18/19.
That’s the thing though the board might use the decent start has a excuse to say we don’t need anymore players we’ll be fine and that would be a big mistake.
I get the impression that Duff has the final say and that he's passed up the opportunity on a few players. That's me reading between the lines though mate. I might be totally wrong.
Duff's interview with the YP yesterday goes against what you're suggesting here. Challenges around players leaving Oakwell and freeing up budget, challenges around clubs being ready to release players, and challenges around players wanting to hold out for a Championship club and not being prepared to drop a division (yet). He says the lack of signings isn't due to a lack of trying.
Morecambe set asking price at 600k apparently. Not worth a punt at that price. Let someone else like Port Vale or Fleetwood have him for that price IMO.
He’ll be sold for nearer £250k. In last year of his contract and 29 years old. No way will Fleetwood or Port Vale pay £600k, they wouldn’t have the cash for a start. I’d have thought he was worth a gamble at £250k but we really are that skint that he’s out of our range.
If he actually is gettable at 200/250k then he is worth a punt and I would hope we would stick a bid in. If they are dead set on sticking to that 600k price tag then 100% avoid.
Genuine question. How many times have you seen him play to know he's worth us splashing out a quarter of a million pounds plus wages, with zero resale value?
Why would we sign someone with a proven goal scoring record at this level, when we can wait for a couple of inexperienced kids to loan in next week at the last minute?
None, probably same number as you and most others on here. But just purely on my opinion looking at stats and seeing the highlights from EFL show etc. He looks to be worth a punt at 200k ish which is a pretty small fee to pay. If we have that available then there would be worst ways to spend it. He has scored 39 goals across the last two seasons in L1 and L2 which is pretty good but of course his record before that is pants. He is very Alfie May esque in that sense who I have been dismissive of in the past. Stockton has only 1 year left on his deal meaning he should be cheaper to get than May, if I had to pick one of the two I would edge towards Stockton purely on that basis. In reality I wouldn't have either as both are a risk and only offer a possible short term fix and no resale value, but the window isn't open for that much longer and we need options up top and over the last two seasons, he has been better than anyone else we have currently. If it was 200k ish on Stockton or nothing I know which I would pick. I would also much rather have someone like this on a permanent deal than another untested loanee that might be good like Fletcher was for us, or could be another Ugbo, as at least we would own the player instead of developing someone else's asset.
