I don't understand how everyone seems to think he has a poor attitude. Based on what, hearsay? And to be fair, his kid brother was murdered when Mallik was just 18, I can't even begin to imagine what that does to a person, especially one in the public eye. If he does have a chip on his shoulder, I think it's understandable. I wish Mallik all the best.
Yeah and if Moore has a good World cup, Im sure he will leave Bournemouth this season for another bigger and better club. Its what hes made a habit of doing. Wilkes though as most of us probably think, must have an attitude problem. Thats a shame because he could be at a good Champship club, rather than ending up in Lg one again. I wonder if he fell out with Hull ?.
It is a shame mate because he clearly has an abundance of talent, and even as one of the greatest of all time said, Ronaldo, talent means nothing without hard work. He could definitely have a cracking career in the higher leagues... of course that's assuming it is to do with that. I'd have thought Moore would have gone Burnley at some point, natural replacement for Wood, and Weghorst... But I think Kompany is trying to change that style drastically. I could definitely see him moving when Bournemouth inevitably gets relegated again, either to another play off championship side or a newly promoted side.
I don't think anyone else is suggesting otherwise mate. In most jobs, more money is bettering themselves. I think it's kinda taboo in football though to suggest you're just moving for the money!
It could be said as well that he/Moore bettered himself when leaving Mick McCarthy & Ipswich, for a struggling Barnsley team. At least we gave him regular first team football. And if Wilkes got on well with Grant McCann at Hull, Im surprised Peterbrough weren't interested in him. But that would have meant moving daarn saarf lol.
He did lose his brother you’re reight and that is terribly sad for anyone. His brother was a member of a Leeds gang though, called ‘The Flock’. They’re involved in drugs, guns, gang related violence etc. not at all saying the lad had it coming or deserved what happened to him. Sometimes people fall into a bad crowd. Various reports about Malik being involved in this gang have been around for years, even when he played here. He was once sparred jail for being involved in a gang related attack which involved someone being stabbed, this was common knowledge to most Barnsley fans at the time or at least I thought it was? https://www.leeds-live.co.uk/news/leeds-news/leeds-united-mallik-wilks-court-18571678.amp There’s also other examples of Wilks getting up to other let’s say unsavoury stuff. I remember seeing stuff on here and social media at the time when he played for us pictures of him taking legal highs and seen out clubbing during the week, nights before games sometimes. If you look it up similar stuff has been said about him during his time at Hull City. I wasn’t just pigeon holing Wilks because of how he was on the pitch. Lad is clearly troubled, for me he can either take his chance at Wednesday and still make a name for himself stop all the nonsense off the pitch or he can end up like Nile Ranger and carry on wasting his opportunities and doing unsavoury stuff off the pitch.
I'd forgotten about the gang-related attack that he was allegedly a part of. You know a lot more about his background than me, and thanks for taking the time to explain your reasoning. I do think though that that was then and this is now. I hope he isn't affiliated with the gang any more, and hope he lets his feet do the talking. As you allude to, he is at a crossroads and has a choice to make. Hopefully now he's older and has moved around a bit (albeit still in the North), he has grown as a person and grown up a bit.
It’s like I said he’s clearly a talented footballer or he wouldn’t keep getting opportunities at decent sized clubs like us, Hull and Wednesday. Think he got like 20 goals in this division for Hull. He needs to show that regularly though or he’ll likely be playing non league soon enough or be in serious trouble if he’s still involved in stupid stuff off the pitch. So hopefully he’s learnt his lesson and is a lot more grown up now but it’s hard to wish anyone well when they play for Wednesday!
I wasn’t aware of these deals but I can only guess that they were tailored to suit particular circumstances. Both were known quantities either at or past their peaks and unlikely to increase in value, unlike the young players we mostly sell on where the gamble is that they will develop further and increase in value. It could well be that we are entitled to a proportion of the fee Hull are getting but I think it is extremely unlikely. From our viewpoint I think we were more likely to go for something like 15% of a future profit than say 5% of any fee.
He clearly is involved with a dodgy group to say the least. I am not convinced anything will change while he is surrounded by those influences and a move to Sheffield doesn't get him away from that. If he is to kick on, maybe a move away from Yorkshire and those gang links would do him good. Talented lad but clearly involved with the wrong crowd.
