    Agreed. Both up from about 19p on my current contract. Crackers, but at least by fixing now I'm insulated from the possible January rise.

    My energy company claim that 100% of their electricity is generated from renewables.

    Now, I'm not aware that the price of sunshine, wind and tides have doubled over the last 6 months, so why will my bill?

    How can they say that when all electricity is fed into the grid they can’t guarantee that you will get wind or solar electric in you house

    Energy prices going crackers, inflation in double digits and yet the Tory rags are trying to vilify those who dare to make a stand to try and preserve some quality of life. They're not even striking for an increase in real terms, but just striking to have less of a decrease, and that's still apparently militant Marxism. It's utterly dystopian and yet some of the people who will struggle to heat their house this winter will still vote for them.

    I remember people casting serious doubts on the wisdom of privatising the energy companies 35 years ago. It seems that Thatcher really is shafting everyone from beyond the grave.

    Im in bed with Covid (first time!) so I thought id do what ive been meaning to and work out our bill based on just the October price rise. Two adults (working from home for 60% of the time). One child and a dog (WOOF!) Semi-detached house made in the 50s. Rented, with double glazing in the back but not in the front.

    It's pretty grim reading and above the 'average' that so often gets quoted in the press. The predicated rises in January and April would see it go to over £7k a year. HAHAHAHAHHA!

    Funnily enough I've just been doing something very similar. We live in a detached, well insulated home 7 year old home with a child and a dog (WOOF!). We're going from £1456 per year to £4870, which is £855 better off than my projection of sticking with the price cap*. It's absolutely wild out there and I think I'm reasonably 'lucky' that EON have offered me another fix for when mine ends in Oct this year, although time will tell on that one.

    The only thing I’d add normally is to not forget to do the calculation of the extra payments you would voluntarily be making between now and the next pay increase where you’d be cheaper on the price cap. It’s worth forgoing that at the moment though when prices are due to become so high, unless the deal is guaranteed until a certain date (we signed up to a deal that was more expensive than the at-the-time cap but was less than the new cap with a delayed start date - they allowed a 30 day delay).
