People make these sweeping statements about what we should do with the lives of some of the most vulnerable people on earth. Opinions would change pretty quickly if they walked a mile in someone elses shoes.

I’ll bite:
Do you know the death rate per day? Birth rate? How many are leaving the country?

So if we accepted 1200 people in every day, would the population even grow?
How many vacancies are there in the NHS? Truck drivers? Care workers? Farming?

So; can you expand on why an extra half million workers is a bad thing? Even if it is that many (it’s not - but let’s discuss it anyway).

 

My worry about all these Asylum seekers coming over is where do they all go? There's plenty of uk residents living in poverty and squalor. The NHS is in a mess as it is and struggling to cope. The government are giving France £53 BILLION to stop them coming but they aren't so stop the money and spend it on helping EVERYONE who needs help. And iam not racist just a realist.

 

No. But the following points need to be made:

1. We don't take in immigrants at 1200 per day.
2. We only have the numbers of illegal crossings we do because there is no way to claim asylum before entering.
3. The reason for point 2 above seems to be that the people in charge are happy for the channel to thin out the numbers coming in by drowning, and maintaining a hard policy inexplicably plays well with a lot of people despite it basically meaning the state is complicit in avoidable deaths.
4. The government policy doesn't crack down on people smugglers, it creates their whole market for them.
5. The reason the asylum seekers are predominantly male is because it's a dangerous crossing, and so you send the fittest member of the family across to claim asylum at which point safer arrangements can be made for the family to join him.

Thanks to the media a lot of people are ignorant of the above and so I don't want to label anyone who raises issues with channel crossings as racist. But once people are aware of the above I struggle to see alternative reasons for supporting the ******** the government continues to peddle.
