I’m worried if he thinks the current squad is even close to being good enough to be a top half team. I can only see 3/4 players that are good enough.
But that is all if buts and maybes. Duff confirms no new bids have been made so as it stands we have no need for any new CBs at the moment. That only becomes an issue if both of those leave. Helik hasn't played a game all season yet and we have coped without him (He is no doubt better than all the others though) so we would be ok without him. If Mads and Helik both left then yeah we would 100% need another but that is only an issue if that happens.
Andersen certainly seems happy at Oakwell, but if he could get back into the Championship and we were made an offer which the board deemed acceptable, he'd probably be on his way.
Hard to say. We have brought in someone used to having a very minimal budget and have given them a very minimal budget. The signings so far are underwhelming. Generally speaking we look better drilled and organised so that’s a definite plus. He will keep us in the division but think it will be hard for him or anyone else to progress unless we invest.
No, I'm saying I can't predict the future. I can't say we definitely won't get promoted either. I don't know what will happen, but I think we'll be closer to relegation than promotion. Beyond that...
I agree that I can see us being closer to relegation than promotion. The next 7 days will shape our season. If we don’t bring in the players we need it’s going to be a struggle.
I think we're accepting of the fact we're in a transition period & it's gonna take a few windows to clear out the dead wood, lose the big wages & bring in the right types of players whilst instilling the right type of culture & mentality after a bad year. Ipswich & Wednesday both spent big last year & the net result was the same. I expect us to be here for a little while but I'm just hopeful Duff is still in charge. It's the first time since Heckingbottom I reckon I actually trust and am invested in a manager of ours.
I do not think the next seven days will shape our season but it will give Duff the tools to work with until January & then re assess , its not so long ago that we were bottom of this division in december & the rest they say is history
Isn't it crazy you've added Benson to that after all the stick he got last season? Changed everyones mind. It's almost as if we should give all signings more than 5/6 games ey
Tbf the gulf in quality between Champ and L1 is huge. The criticism he got last year (apart from any personal stuff) was totally justified
I agree - thats my point, not writing our new players off after just 5 games, especially after seeing the turn around of Benson this season, even Andersen when he first arrived. Even Hourihane got some stick, deserved at times. Players need time
I think Duffy as a tough gig at the minute , however he knew what he was signing up for. I think he won't be able to take this team forward until the end of August when the window closes. Then he will know who's staying who's leaving and can work with the players he as until the January window opens. He as a better squad of players than he had at is last team he managed , so there is no reason he can't get a mid table finish once all the politics off the field are sorted. I must admit from what he as acheived up to now I've every confidence he is the coach who will take us forward unlike the last 2 appointments.
