I know it’s a bit early but I need to start getting revved up for next Saturday. In footballing terms it means the World to me for us to get a result next weekend - irrationally so really. I’m hoping their result today leads to a bit of complacency and that we can show a good deal of the passion that big Val showed after our last win there. Remember him shouting down the camera lens at the end of the game - “That’s for you Barnsley fans! Merry Christmas!” COYR
I couldn't give a toss about Wednesday other than it being a local game. But each to their own. Hope we batter them as I hope we do every team we play. Pigs (lol) can fly.
Never really cared much about sheffield Wednesday. Absolutely despise sheffield United though, however 3 points is 3 points so want us to win for obvious positional reasons
I work in Sheffield and large it all the time then don’t understand why we want to beat them so badly.
I live at Hoyland Common which is about as close to Hillsboro as Oakwell is & therefore you get the village split between Wednesday & us so rivalry is keen & believe you me they are a very arrogant bunch who genuinely think they are one of the biggest clubs in the land , they are so over the top it is unreal , I sincerely hope we stuff them big time
I get it completely also. Living amongst the Wednesday fans for 25 years, you get worn down with the arrogance. Just yesterday, moaning about the lack of fans Forest Green took, saying it was the biggest game in their history. Absolutely obsessed with crowds. Even if you put aside the arrogance, has there ever been another club that has consistently beat us in controversial circumstances? Lost count of the times I’ve left Hillsborough fuming. Not going next week. I’ve got to a point where I’d rather miss an occasional win there, than witness even one more defeat.
Some of our fans are utterly embarrassing but there are a fair few who aren't arrogant, how can we be this is our 23rd season outside the top flight and we are in our 3rd stint in League One in that time. Yesterday's numbers by Forest Green were commendable to anyone with a brain.
My two best mates are owls fans so it's one I hate to lose for that reason alone as they obviously don't let me hear the end of it for a while if they do win.
Just to qualify my OP I know loads of Wendys who are genuinely happy for us to do well except against them.
I don't care about them. I just hate playing them. Every decision to every piece of turf is on their side
I worked alongside a Wednesday fan for 20 years. I'm going on Saturday and will be with him in the Wednesday end! Done this plenty of times and it's been fine. Most Wednesday fans I've encountered in and around the ground, are reasonably humble about their recent failings. Yes, some see it is a tragedy that a club with such a strong support base and a fairly illustrious, albeit increasingly distant, history but many of them, like me, would be genuinely pleased to see more Yorkshire teams higher up the pyramid, just as long as they're one of them! They do have a contingent of embarrassing fools stuck in the past and plenty of armchair fans who went in the good times but now just moan on social media. But when it comes to empty vessels making the most noise, we're hardly without sin to cast the first stone! We have suffered some controversial defeats though and I've often left Hillsborough feeling pretty hard done by! I think my last visit was when Hammill got sent off for squaring up to Sam Hutchinson after he'd had to jump 4 feet in the air to avoid a leg breaker tackle. Even the Hillsborough PA announcer thought it was Hutchinson who'd been sent off for the dangerous lunge!
I worked with many plastic pig as a miner what a god awful set of 1st class t0ssers, that's where my collosall dislike of the swine comes from. Horrible lot but a kid I knew was a Sheffielder & a top lad.
Sums my feelings up. Witnessed too many tough defeats there, last minute goals, deflections, terrible referring decisions, just everything that could go their way invariably does. Really hope those going witness a rare win but I’m giving it a miss. Just hate the place if I’m honest lol.
I want to win this one so much its hurting my head. Paying Winnall £18k per week to sit in the stands when we were pushing for playoffs will never go away. At a time when they had 7 or 8 decent strikers. The amount of debt they are in and could pay for players they didnt need or want and het away with it is a bit of a disgrace.
